Dear 343,
Thank you for a fantastic pw package, in my opinion it is the best one released.
I do apologize, but I had to modify your install scripts, because the install of ubuntu 12.04.3 is no longer possible, as it will auto update it self to 12.04.5 due to security reasons (according to ubuntu's staff).
I did change the "test for ubuntu 12.04.3" to "test for ubuntu 12.04.5".
I have a question for you, I need to open pwAdmin to wan, I know this is not "so" safe, but I just need it, to have my friends using the pwAdmin from another ips. Where is this "firewall" ?
Again, thank you for releasing this great package.
You got yourself another seeder. ^_^
I include 12.04.3 with the bundle for such reason. Although I don't know about any "auto updating" because I've designed this entire package to be install friendly even for those installations where NO internet connection even exists (which is why I went through such lengths to include EVERYTHING {ie: ia32-libs}), so, if 12.04.3 indeed does "auto update" itself - I would suggest (for others anyway since you seem to have done modifications without problem), I would suggest to install 12.04.3 with your network cable NOT plugged in, THEN install this package. THEN you could always allow it to 'update' itself after that (for most people THAT would be easier than messing around with my installation )... Continuing right along... ... ...
I still would NOT recommend opening pwAdmin to ALL of "public" WAN. What you can do is add individual IP's that would be allowed, or even IP "pools" - I used Tomcat "valve" to accomplish this... You're a pretty smart man - look at context.xml in each tomcat plugins META-INF  You'll figure it out, then you don't have to just open it completely to "any" address or "anyone", you can set specific IP's or IP "pools" that WILL be allowed access (white list), ALL others will be DENIED... That's the safest way to do that! (oh and thinking about it I wouldn't doubt 12.04.3 may "auto update" itself [also depending on your settings when you installed {such as "use landscape to manage" "auto update" or "NO updates"} because of that major SSH vulnerability that was found (what was that labled, heartbleed or some shit?)...
Any way, glad you like the package. There actually is ONE small known bug that I will be re-releasing this package soon (can't craft on v136 due to a small server side elements data error >.<) Not only am I a really busy chap, but I like to think I should allow a little more time before fixing stuff, because god only knows my luck, I'll fix it, push out the "update" THEN something ELSE will be found. So, soon enough. If you fav. 136 like me, you can look around here to find the (rather easy) fix, so you could fix it yourself in the meantime. But me being a perfectionist I WILL update the entire package (even for something so small)...
Have fun, there's really SO much TO this package, it's a culmination of my work, and really everyone around RZ's "work" since about 2009!!! So this package is well around 6 years worth of work! (lots and lots of "easter eggs" too )
I know, and I did use that iso, but still, I have tested it.
When using vbox, it will NOT update itself, but in a dedicated/local machine, it WILL update itself, I did contact ubuntu's staff, and they just told me that vbox does not work as a "real" machine, therefore being called "Virtual Box", still, took a long time for me to understand. haha :P:
BUT, you are right, I could have installed it without the cable. Sorry for messing with your installation. xD
Well, agree with you, will add specific ips, it is the safest. :D
I don't like it.. I love it. It's different. ;)
So glad that you will fix it, I am not so known with pw "code", have just set up a few servers, testing pw and so on... But never became a "big" server, being the only staff in a server is kind of hard. But finally, I got some "friends" joining this "project".
However, I started playing on 1.3.6 (around that) on PWE, and I got addicted, as the new versions came, I changed server, like to older versions, haha :D. So, yeah, I do fav. 136 like you. :)
Waiting for that update, I will still try to fix it in the mean while. :D
SIX years, huh. WOW.
Thank you for sharing. :D
Another question, boutique is not available, or, I cannot see the boutique in-game, I understand that you don't want people making money from the package, as it is really unfair. But I do not pretend to that, as it is easier for me to list special items there, instead of sending via mail on pwAdmin.
Where can I edit this, file? Like to enable the "O" :D.
Regards. ^_^
By all means, you're free to modify the package as you see fit, at least, for yourself that is. I would appreciate it that nobody starts redistributing modified versions though as that will only make support more complex. Which is also why I supply checksums so that people can check and know if they're receiving MY release, or something that's been tampered with.
Yes, it sure will be MUCH more secure for you if you only add IP "pools" or even more so if you add specific individual IPs. I couldn't imagine leaving the administration "utility" open to the entire internets!
Oh yea I fix anything I become aware of, especially with my fav ver 136! It's really nothing big, there was an errornous file that made it into my elements.data conversions that then somehow made it to 'production' =\ so the server side elements for 136 will inhibit crafting AFAIK with this current download. Here, I'll even leave ya with a link directly to the thread that will tell you how to fix it: http://forum.ragezone.com/f756/craft...quest-1014414/ I will also be making the "fix" as simple as possible as so my seeders will not have to DL all 20+GB again. Provided the server ISO for 136 is the only one thing to change, everyone seeding will only need to re download the roughly 485 MB - which of course will be MUCH better than having to re-dl all 20+GB!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, about roughly SIX years of "work" went into this very release. I decided I would make a nice shiny pretty package that would almost wipe your ass for you, so that all the people out there that don't know squat, could possibly learn something from it. Once upon a time, there were files here for PW (the same very ones that started 126/136), but of course they were pretty much just that - files. MANY people could not figure out how to get them working, there was a LOT of problem with that (dig back to 2008 n you'll see). The very first PW server I went to set up to "screw around" didn't even turn out to work either... And I had prior experience with "servers" in general (not game, but had server experience nonetheless). Once I got a working (a release by "BEASTIE" is what got me started) setup of PW, I studied the shit out of it. I then figured I needed to provide a working copy for the rest of the world to learn off of, and or just use. One example I'm sure I've probably used before is, you wouldn't seek to learn from something that doesn't even work (what are you gonna learn, it doesn't even work). You need something that works to LEARN off of it. Example: a car. If I gave you a broken car and expected you to learn something from it, I don't know what I could expect you to learn, I surely couldn't expect you to learn how to FIX it, because you never had it in its fixed state. BUT if I give you a WORKING car, and ask you to learn from it. Well, you have it in a working condition, you know what it does, you can study it and see how it functions since it DOES after all function, it's working! Now, you can either just use it till it breaks, then trust me, you'll figure out how to fix it fast if you liked it! OR, you could even break it on purpose, just to learn even more about it (and fixing it). So, my release was born. I could understand throwing somebody a bunch of files that didn't just "work" and expect them NOT to get frustrated when they couldn't make them work. But logic said, provide them with a working copy, THAT will actually be better to learn off of (as outlined in above example). Of course I also can not take all full credit. I have to first of all thank whoever from inside the company "leaked" these files -or- whoever [strike]"stole"[/strike] "borrowed" them! I also have all of anyone who has ever been active and contributing to /f452 here @ RZ! Of course I can for the package itself, as I put together everything in an organized, functional state - I am really good at packaging things up :D That's the other thing, I strive for NOT relying on the internet. For a few reasons really, but nonetheless I strive to make sure any 'software' or 'package' I release does NOT rely on the interwebs! For one of my reasons, I'm just OLD SCHOOL like that - all the whipper snappers around here will NEVER know what life was like before the interwebs. YES, MOST games were - get this - SINGLE PLAYER. The games that weren't - I was busy inviting friends over for LAN parties where we'd have to connect using NULL MODEM CABLES. (OMG you mean the internet didn't come with planet earth? ROFL). That leads me into my next reason, LAN parties. I still host them, at least one per year, and granted they're not the small living room filled w/ geeks and our null modem cables, luckily we have ethernet and can set up HUGE LANs, but a REAL LAN party, DOES NOT HAVE INTERNET (omg imagine that again, life without internet LOL)! So, especially revolving around gaming, I want to make sure anything and everything I do, can be done while setting up for a LAN party. That's exactly what I did with this package (ie: ia32-libs being bundled with it), this package can be 100% installed WITHOUT INTERNET! So say I was in the middle of nowhere setting up a LAN party - literally, lets say out in the middle of a field or desert or forest preserve or something - using nothing but people, their PCs, and generators (NO internet at all, no cables running in from the telco/cableco even no satellite coverage) - guess what - (as long as I had this downloaded in advance of course) I would be able to install this package no matter what! [trust me I even thought of trying to make it a "live CD" or "live DVD" for machines that potentially didn't even have a HDD or to not 'overwrite' an existing HDD, but that thought was deemed to be overkill!] So as you can see, A) I'm just OLD SCHOOL! B) this had to suit the purpose of being installed for a LAN party or where internet would otherwise not even be an option/available. Also, as unlikely as it would be - I know - what if the internet "died" tomorrow? What if it went POOF (think comics) POOF? Well I know one thing will be true, SO many people in the world would not know WTF to do, but I would still have a fully functional PW server/client! Which is also exactly why I've finally added the 'donate' button in my signature. I've had many people tell me I should be charging for a release so good, to which I've always responded that I would not. Finally a friend convinced me to (at the very least) accept 'donations' from anyone who feels the package is worthy enough, to wholeheartedly voluntarily send me some monetary compensation for all the years of 'work' that's gone into this whole release...
On to the cash shop question you had. Of course again you're free to do as you want to with YOUR copy of the software, but I will go ahead and explain a little more in depth for you on this one too, so you can better decide for yourself which path you want to take. You see, the cash shop has been effectively 'removed' because in my release the gshop files are empty. Of course logically speaking if you actually deleted files (gshop) that the server LOOKS for, then it wouldn't RUN. So, if you really want to take that route, populate the cash shop, there's your answer. Fill the blank gshops with stuff you want to be in there (and it will magically come back after it's no longer empty as it is included). BUT, but, I must recommend the other path, of leaving the "boutique" GONE! Use NPCs to sell stuff. It's actually VERY easy to set up NPC vendors to sell the same shit you would have otherwise sold in the "boutique". Here is a link that will include a tutorial I made for creating your very own NPC vendors:
http://forum.ragezone.com/f754/help-...-shop-1033849/
Now I know I kinda made a wall of text (luckily there are pix too ) but it is really really simple. The ONLY file(s) you really NEED to edit to make your own custom NPC vendors is ELEMENTS.DATA (then of course NPCGEN.DATA too so that the server will spawn them )
ps) oh yea, I don't know where to add it but I was thinking about it before hitting the "submit reply" button. I am glad you were able to make it work for 12.04.5 - the main reason I actually set it to be "THAT" version (12.04.3) specific (instead of say just version 12.04 or even 12) was because of IA32-LIBS. Before I released I was testing the package with the 'general' requirement of like 12.04 or 12, and the exact copy of IA32-LIBS that comes in the package CRASHED on I think it was 12.04.1 or something like that. So I learned that I did need to make it very specific for that reason. So changing it did run a risk of IA32-LIBS not being correct for that version of OS. Yea, those IA32-LIBS have been the bane of this package...
so i download the torrent burned the ubuntu server iso to disk and set up ubuntu on vmware( at least tried to anyways) i started the install processes and got to clock configuration failed, skipped and started base install and then got this DebootStrap warning
file :///cdrom/pool/main/libd/libdrm/libdrm 2_2.4.43-ubuntu0.2_amd64.deb was corrupt am i going to have to re download the torrent or is something just not set up right. I'm a bit confused on a few things tho once i get ubuntu installed how do i set up the other iso are they all to be set up as separate Virtual machines on vmware and if not how does ubuntu know where the other isos are or how to point ubuntu to them as i currently have each one burned to their own disk or are these suppose to all be on same disk. i did read that all isos have to be put in root so do u physicaly copy all files onto ubuntus root folder ? im trying to understand how ubuntu ties into the other isos i'm extremely nub at this to the point where i had to Google what 343 meant by burning/mounting and just asking for some clarification and a remedy for the corrupt file and failed clock config thanks also to point out what else i could possibly be doing wrong.
Yes, re download first and foremost - double check the ISO hash/checksums to know if you have a good DL.
- - - Updated - - -
And no they're not separate V-machines. Make 1 VM, install OS (ubuntu) then install desired packages (136 is BASE and MUST be installed prior to installing any of the 'add ons')
- - - Updated - - -
If you're failing clock config on OS install you don't have the VM network set up right. You'll want to use BRIDGED and tick the REPLICATE PHYSICAL NETWORK CONNECTION STATE
ty 343 for a response i got that all running now but i have one other issue now trying to get server and client installed for 136 i get this error after i log in do "ifconfig" (just to check my ip only) and type in ./install-pw "no such file or directory" so i i did a google search on exactly that and went to ubuntus forums where it suggested to type in cd as a command so i tried the following "cd ./install-pw" same thing happened i'm just at a loss iv'e tried a burned copy of both client and server and when that didn't work i tried mounting it with no change i know i'm probably missing something here on the forums about this seems to be this would be something discussed before but i have yet to see anything once i can get 136 installed the rest should be done exactly the same way. I also have one question regarding the video tutorial is that for the old release or the new one or both I'm a bit afraid to try that if its only dedicated to the old release.if however i need to do it to continue forward i will i just don't want to mess up anything if its not the right set up for the newest update 07 / January / 2014 I did notice the set up was different with mine compared to the video it never asked me about ips gateways hosts ext basically just ran and installed with no pop up configurations needed which i thought was odd

heres some more info on ubuntu http://www.ubuntu.com/ official web site and heres link to forums page http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=48 the best way to tell you to get info on making a server is to have note pad open and search the forums on ragezone and google when you find something of interest copy the link from your browser onto notepad so you can refer back to it later. also doing this you can also add notes to the links like http://forum.ragezone.com/f753/how-to-895262/ "removing celestial tigers event" the bold lettering was my notes describing what else maybe in the topic :) hope those suggestions help you because im far from even being able to explain as im still working on educating myself
hi, I downloaded your full pwi package and ran it on a desktop server with the Only OS on the desktop, cause when I tried using more than one OS it corrupted everything, the os I downloaded was Ubuntu 12.04.3 (one in your package) I have everything working fine except for one thing, See, in your vid tutorial you give the cmd,
"mount /dev/cdrom /cdrom" and when I type that there it said
"No such file in directory" now I tried with both placing the server on a Burnt CD, pendrive and I even tried VM but nothing works, and my friend finally got around that and found the file but then it started saying "Permission denied" on all 3, oh and Another thing if I type "/cd /cdrom" nothing works cause in order to get to my file it said its in media, ad in "cd /media" and get shut down by "Permission Denied" any Help Would Be Super! ty, Best regards :)
