Also, this release (as available for DL right now) is near it's EOL as I'm working on a MAJOR update to the package...
If anything I would also recommend verifying the hash/file checksums to make sure you didn't get a bad DL...

Of course it can, I'm just not sure if it will work w/ the release (at least the setup script as included) -- since this one is currently so old I honestly don't remember how I even have it set up. Even the next update is going to be version specific, but that is also primarily due to the fact that I include a pack of ia32-libs (so even offline installs can be accomplished) that, when tested attempting to install on 'wrong versions' of the OS do NOT work. But will it physically work on 12.04, yes for sure it will because my upcoming update is looking to require v 12.04.3 Also, good choice on the 12.04 I *always* recommend staying with and ONLY using LTS versions :wink::thumbup:Quote:

I will warn you (and everyone else) though, that, the major update to this package (that should be right around the corner from it's release [finally]) will specifically require *Ubuntu Server x64 12.04.3... There will of course be a way to 'bypass' that (for people that REALLY know what they're doing) and run on any OS you so desire, but at least in terms of what the package has been designed for -- it will specifically require *Ubuntu server x64 v12.04.3! One of the (main) reasons for this is: I've set up the package for capabilities of being installed on a machine with absolutely NO internet (including the necessary installation of ia32-libs) -- as I myself have done these types of installations at and for LAN parties {yes, REAL, LAN parties -- where there is NO interwebz}... Also of course, the entire package is also meant to be 'n00b friendly' so I want things to be as simple as possible for those people 'new' to the 'scene' to be able to get a server installed and working with ease (as it is hard to LEARN from something that's not a working example).
So, in the future -- look for my package/update (installation scripts) to REQUIRE *Ubuntu Server x64 12.04.3 {again, of course there's a way around that for anyone who actually KNOWS what they're doing :wink:}...

No, you surely do NOT want 0777 on all files. If I'm not mistaken when installed off the ISO (or a physical disc) all permissions are set to 0555. You may also be safe in making them 0755.Quote:

That's really odd then. First report of that nature post thousands and thousands of installs/downloads (IK, I watch the DL counter and it's hovering around 10,000 DL's for this package currently)... It is, I have to agree. It's not centralized so almost impossible to have any 'take down'. The only problem ever is when people leech and don't seed. Which is why I've said I will seed pretty much indefinitely as long as I see it's a healthy torrent with plenty of other seeders/seeds. Once I notice my load is getting too heavy (on just me) because there aren't an adequate number of seeders, I will also happily pull my seed and allow the torrent to die. The fate of this package lies in "the community" or "the world"... Not just me, and not just one upload location/server (like MegaUpload)... It will be a torrent that, if everyone that downloads it seeds it (regardless of whether 24/7 or just whenever their computer is on [only because I know that not everyone keeps their PC on 24/7 {although you SHOULD}]) too, the torrent will live on just fine... I personally do NOT have (or have access to) good upload speeds. So, I will be getting this to some initial seeders as well, to make 'release' as smooth as possible.
So, again, I'll throw it out there that if anyone wants to be an initial seeder let me know of your interest. Naturally, I will only be considering people based on their connection speeds, not anything else. Not "how long I've known you", not because "you have or are willing to pay me", not because "you'll s*** m* d***". :lol: and obviously "just wanting to be one of the first to have it" doesn't cut it either... I will pick the top/fastest uplink/upload speeds. I am looking for somewhere between 5 and 15 initial seeders. This release as it is currently downloadable has been abandoned (even though I'm an archiver I do not have those files on my PC or in my archives any longer) for the new release/update that is pending. Again, if you decide to DL the update, you'll see why. The only thing that's not provided is the toilet paper (but if you provide the TP it will wipe your rear for you <.<)...
I am thinking I WILL leave this 'version' available though (in it's old form) as the update is also going to be MUCH more STRICT. Right off the bat I can safely say that it's going to REQUIRE:
- Ubuntu Server x64 12.04.3 [the installation script will support NO other version of OS, as this will be capable of being set up on a LAN with NO internet access IE for a LAN party]
- at LEAST (an ABSOLUTE BARE MINIMUM OF) 6GB of RAM (more if running in a VM [8GB], so the HOST OS can have some RAM too)

Yep, there's nothing you can do about that. You have to figure it's inserting EVERY file into the MySQL DB, AND a checksum for each file too. So there's nothing you can do to speed up making the 'base' patch for CPW, except maybe buying better/newer/faster hardware (CPU/RAM etc)...
I think on my BEST computer it still takes ~4 hours (like fgru said). I've even had it take in upwards of 12 hours in VM's!

IN VM? honestly iam using vm now. yeah,for the first time but now iam thinking about the next 343 release because im gonna do this AGAIN! or maybe if I know more about how the pwserver files works, i could just update the server files.just i don't want to create this base again and again.iam tired to leave my pc open for a day.
Don't need to build again and again... Files can be updated... 1.3.6 to 1.4.x but downgrade is not possible...

Ok. I am stuck at the point when you enter "nano /etc/hosts". Your IP shows 10.0.0.51. Mine says 127.0.0.1 so I left it like that on "...htdocs/config.php" and started "...apache-tomcat/something/something" and the page wont load. I tried changing the "...htdocs/config.php" to mine 127.0.0.1 and started "...apache-tomcat/something/something" but the page still doesnt load. What should I do?
Ran "infconfig". Changed ALL of adresses (xept the local host one) in "/nano opt apache tomcat" and "/nano opt lampp.." and "nano etc hosts" to the one in ifconfig next eth0 - inet addr"10.0.2.15" and the page still doesnt load
execute the command ifconfig and then get the IP it comes out as, then go into all the files and replace 127.0.0.1 or whatever it is to the ipv4 that came up when you ddid ifconfig.Quote:

I am trying hard. Reinstalled ubunto several times. After the sign in it shows me eth0:10.0.2.15. ifconfig says the same. So I edited everything I should to 10.0.2.15. The page wont load anyway.

You don't need to change hosts....
BTW that video is even more dated than this package... But correct, you do not need to alter hosts.
did you already change network setting in vm?to bridge?
Normal you dont need to change anything. On instaled the server and done.
I cant only see the char list 'Loading Character Data Failed' show only.

it does but when i edited iweb136 filename to iweb the password of pwAdmin was gone although iweb works partly.

I have a little problem with the install.
After the /root/notes ->./install.sh the hosts file is empty
Also the config.php and the .userconfig.jps
I use as sample as your video 343 and I do everything what you do. Except for one thing I used VirtualBox instead of vmWare.
Can you guys sugges me some tips what I can do for the full hosts and ect stuff?
