I know that part may not have been directed directly to me but, I feel compelled to respond anyway :wink:

This package doesn't really require much Linux knowledge at all, as long as a person can figure out how to log in (certainly NOT rocket science) and mount an optical disc (or ISO). However ALL servers (this one being no different) DO require a BASIC/MINIMUM knowledge of networking, if someone is so naive in networking that they don't even know the difference between static and dynamic IP, or even what an IP *IS* then yes, they have no business trying to run ANY kind of server (let alone PW)!!! I have even been MORE than generous to make a thread like THIS ONE for those completely ignorant to the basics of computer networking! Which I clearly did not really have to do since this is the PW development section after all and not "Linux how to" or "networking how to" section. Also I would like to know how 'crafting' does not work in 136, as that portion of the package has been around forever and this is the first I'm hearing of anything about there being anything wrong with crafting! Are you not using the same exact server and client that I provide in the package? That would be the only thing I could think of that would hinder crafting from working for you.My v136 is HIGHLY 'custom' technically (even though it's meant to highly mimic official PWi), so if you don't use my server AND client together, you WILL get problems! It is also well known that I have removed the "boutique" as it does only promote the 'pay to play' agenda, for official AND for private servers ("donate gears" anyone :ott1:) so I took it out, it's useless. I do not support its use, so if you desire to use it, you'll figure it out :D: Also so you know, most if not all the tools on pw_dev.iso are meant to be used in Winblows... If you ever have a blank screen from any of the web interface just use F5 or CTRL+F5.

Never seen or recall hearing of that message, though it actually doesn't say much if anything at all. To find out what's really going on you'd have to post your client and or server logs here please (and don't forget to use code and or spoiler tags :wink:) If no actual errors are found within logs it could also just be a lack of RAM on the server and or client as well :wink:

I have done everything correctly using my ip, Just as in the vedio but (With my ips), The only thing that I belive I did wrong and It wont really affect is the name server adress I didn't know what do do there.
And my ips are static. Any other thing that can help me solve my problem?

How to set up external access to this server?
When I'm trying to use briged connection - there is no internet on virtual machine
When I'm using NAT connection, the server is accesible only via 192.16.8.x.x but not through ext. IP address

What should I do to set it in a proper way?

So, my experience so far:
I downloaded everything, installed the provided Ubuntu on a VMWare machine, extracted folders from "pw-136-server_07.JAN.2014-ubuntu12.04.3_amd64.iso" on Windows and then I uploaded them to VMWare via FileZilla to root directory. Then I ran the "./install-pw" command, pressed Y and for the past 3 hours, my VMware is stuck on "Copying pw-136-server_07.JAN.2014-ubuntu12.04.3_amd64.iso Please Wait. . .".
I assume this isn't normal. Any ideas?

WOW did you ever screw up the simplest install. you need to MOUNT the iso from your devices on vmware. good luck with the rest:lol:

for 2: depending on what you are using, put the 146 server.iso file into the virtual disk. then restart the machine, after its restarted type:

This is my problem that i have had every time i try a server.

So I have installed pw 1.3.6 and pw 1.4.6 and all i really want to do with it is keep it more of a "private" server and play on it with friends just to do some developing and messing around. every time i go to the http://Insert.ip.here/admin it goes to a blank page, i also have no way of connecting to the register page. I would love help if i can get it. i know i have asked this many times before and its probably something really simple that I am just missing.

Mr:Fluzzy reinstall ubuntu then pw-136- then 146-server do like me i got many problem but now i'am ok i am using VirtualBox try before install do Bridged Adapter
and i think this changed ip helped me i typed my ip 2 time on ./ipset.sh

So for anyone who's a complete newbie as usual with PC gaming and pits of hell called "LAN" with older games and different systems around:
Before installing make sure that you're familiar with how IP routing works (if you're using a router). You have to know how to use CMD, at least.
Search PW admin commands on the forum. Most of them are quite outdated, but will work fine if you give them a pudding. Just remember lord Birus from the latest Goku movie. Let him be your guido. Search what each and every "tool" works on PW_DEV.iso. Some work on x64 architecture, some do not, some require appropriate localization i.e installing chinese set characters from the original WinOS CD/DVD.

So PW admin tools mostly work on WinOS. To do it properly "go figure", so basically snoop around the forum and google, google, google, google, google untill you want to eat your monitor-chan. Drink some coffee, tea, al-pacino cappuccino and never give up. Did Naruto give up? NO! He was only afraid of ghosts and critters. If you give up because of the IP problem, Keiko will laugh at your pitiful soul and eat your internal organs depending on degree of emotional stress.

1-Use another Ip adress for example if my pc ip adress is 192.168.100.222
Then I will use 192.168.100.221 for the vmware.
2-I will use my subnet mask in the net mask (while installing)
2-use my name server adress is the same the same as ipv4 adreess( pc ip). ( Iam the admin of my router)

I am having a nasty problem trying to get a server running, although it seems straight enough it NEVER is easy...god damnit. I downloaded and installed VMWare Player 6.0.1 build-1379776 on Windows XP Sp3. Then I created a new Virtual machine pointing the ISO file: ubuntu-10.04.3-server-i386.iso, but whenever I get to the Installing menu, no matter what option I choose it always hangs. I suppose I need to select the first one: "Install Ubuntu Server" but the thing hangs on me. What i am doing wrong? any help is appreciated! BTW I am trying to install the old post's files to have a shot at the game before I download the latest package as the torrent is downloading at max 12Kb/s here :(

Or maybe I need a specific version of VMWare or other Virtual Machine Software?

Same problem as noname, I am using VMPlayer and I have the problem opening the WebPage to config the server, I tried all the options inside Networking: bridged, Private Host, NAT, etc...I have followed step by step the installation video and made sure to use the same IPs and nothing

Well after expending a lot of hours I finally logged to the webpage by editing this file:

sudoedit /etc/network/interfaces

address 192.168.1.5
netmask 255.255.255.0
network 192.168.1.0
broadcast 192.168.1.255
gateway 192.168.1.4 //updated small typo

save the changes and restart the Virtual Machine
Dont forget to set the network adapter to "bridged"

Then type: http://192.168.1.5:8443/pwAdmin/ in the client's browser

1.does this new release configure the ipv4 it own self or do it manually?

2.can i play this on LAN?old release iam using internet connection.

No I didnt solved it using search, because I had a tutorial installation that I followed it step by step. The problem was the odd IPs used in the video, like fgru said they were way below the allowed range, normally they are within 192.168.1.0-255 so this was causing problems with the default IPs used in VMWare and my IP used in Windows XP. Well I am not trying to bash 343's easy to install Package but it was my first time using a Virtual Machine software and a Linux based OS so problems are expected...

But thanks to fgru posts and noname's problem I could finally solved it...for some reason when I edit the serverlist.txt I can only see one server only, the PvE one...

Though I can log and play fine, Perfect World sadly was not the game I was expecting. It was kind of fun though making the server run

Well, since there are only a few seeders at this time, probably since many can not be online all the time, it's time to wait and let it come in when it comes in.
patience. It takes time to download some times. And I know you probably didn't mean it as a rude remark and more as a way of trying to get more seeders, but, as I have learned many many years ago commenting about download times does not solve any thing. Me, I just let it download at its own pace as long as I know I have my torrent down loader set right.

And as far as 343 is concerned, SWEET ASS BUILD SIR.. Waited patiently for this from you and it paid off. :) Am downloading now.. Yes, I have created all the others on my own, but hey, I like your work and I am not getting any younger lol.. Not to mention my eyesight is not what it used to be so I tend to make typing mistakes a lot now days, so the simpler the install, the better for me now hehe..

Download Vmware workstation V10 http://freewareupdate.com/download-vmware-workstation/

Then do everything again up to the minute : 7:00

Then open the setting of your virtual machine server, then CD/DVD (SATA) then use ISO image, direct it to the server-root and check the 2 boxes and then press ok

go back to the server and type in mount /dev/cdrom /cdrom

it should work and then carry on with the vedio

Many thanks 343 for the awesome release. I hate to ask but, I seem to have hit a wall. I have installed Ubuntu, 136 server and 146 server without a hitch. I can register an account no problem, however when I go to myip/admin I get "HTTP Status 403", "Access to the specified resource () has been forbidden." when forwarded to myip:8080/pwAdmin, I'm using pwAdmin/root to login. I'm sure I'm over looking the obvious but any help would be appreciated. I know the 146 server works as I can start it as a service connect with the client and play, it's just the pwAdmin thing I'm stuck on. Thanks

Hello,thanks for ur reply...i installed ubuntu on WMware then as u said went to machine setting then i inserted the server ISO (pw-136-server_07.JAN.2014-ubuntu12.04.3_amd64) then i went back then mount dev/cdrom /cdrom,and its still says mount point /cdrom does not exist.any idea?

Xyphys, if ur using the new ubuntu then

1- mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom


2- cd /media/cdrom


3-ls

upload your iso to server place it in /tmp/
chmod on iso so you can access

chmod rwxr--r--
then
mkdir /mnt/iso
after making the dir
do this :
mount -o loop /tmp/pw-136-server_07.JAN.2014-ubuntu12.04.3_amd64.iso /mnt/iso
then go to dir it's mounted in
cd /mnt/iso
then
cp -R * /
finally just do
./install-pw

I'm not surprised that the 1.4.6 client will error while downloading at 42%.

And tried again, and it failed at 38%.

So it's settled then. If I want the client, I have to use the torrent.

maybe provider / mega error ... i can dl all files without any problems ...

I had fallow the steps but i end up at mount /dev/cdrom /cdrom then it tells me *mount point /cdrom doesn't exist*
i even used apt-get install ia32-libs
and i don't know what to do after this i have tried all the codes you wrote and it doesn't work with me
maybe there is solution yall know ? as you know i am still new or newbie for rage zone and i am not true developer yet but i would like to own my own server and online game to enjoy and invite my own friends i know that there might be new series or versions of pw but i like 1.4.6 series or version
so may i have help ? and thanks for reading all , sorry for bothering .

r u on a physican machine or a vm?
the command varries between both. you need to learn unix basics before trying to run a server. Google is your friend and there are many guides here that help......

Thanks for that. Links all worked, and I was able to get in the game.

He removed the Boutique(and probably blanked the gshop.datas) but it's not the end of the world. Element.data has mostly everything the gshops have.
