Maybe just downgrade PWI elements 1.4.4 to 1.3.6 - just a though :P

I cannot accept 100% credit... Well, I can accept 100% credit for the RELEASE ('package')... I must say, without being able to directly give credit precisely where it is due, and not keeping 'changelogs' - I cannot remember who has done what etc... So I'd say about 50%/50% credit is due here (as far as the actual 'work')... er whatever amount, it doesn't really matter ;)
On this note, I MUST say:
THANK YOU -- to the ENTIRE COMMUNITY !!!
Without the work of not only myself, but the entire community - this package would not have been possible :thumbup1:
LOL Avalanche yeah me being scatterbrained, not unusual for me to miss the obvious  Most of my stuff is clientside anyway, forgot that too, so no problems there.
343, I didn't think of that, thanks for reminding me, can understand now why it'd be difficult to keep changelogs/keep track. List of credits/thank you's would be just as long
This is true... Don't get me wrong -- I certainly believe a person who is due credit should receive it... But I do also think that, as long as I've been working on this 'package' the list would be longer than the GS binary, especially if I included myeslf
But, as you can also see - I didn't 'brand' my release -- sure you can tell it's mine if you know what to look for, but that doesn't really matter to me... Sure I appreciate credit whenever it's given, but I am also not going to try to force someone into giving me credit... I do this to contribute to the entire Perfect World private server 'community' (not JUST RaGEZONE even) !!!
That being said (now that I remember that) -- I think before I pop this next 'update' out -- I am going to take 10 minutes to throw in at least a little 'branding' [don't worry, it wont be anything big]... :):
nvm, i uploaded converted 1.4.4 for u, because ppl had trouble in downgrading them. The only flaw is that this is version from Genesis update (march), not current (september). But they did only add few fashion sets, and 5 flights since that time, so no big deal :)
So.. this is downgraded 1.4.4 elements with 343's added stuff:
elements144 data
LOL yeah it's nice to a get "thanks" now and then, but our community is about being open and sharing, if I can help in anyway as a "thanks" I'll try by contributing at least something, I'll try my best anyways :p
Avanlanche, tyvm for your help! Adding all new stuff now, to test
Heya, i'm trying to pick a computer to host a perfect world server from my house and i was wondering if this PC would do the job adequately.
Here's the link: CybertronPC Imperium TSVIAB1161 Tower Server - 2x AMD Opteron 6128 2.00GHz, 24GB DDR3 ECC, 4x 1TB Hot-Swap HDD, RAID 10 Array, DVDRW, No OS at TigerDirect.com
Also, I keep reading that the main issue with running a game server from your house is upload speed so i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what kinda speeds i needed to be shooting for. Any help is much appreciated =o
That computer would run it rather well, only thing I'm really concerned with would be the price, it does seem somewhat reasonable but I know I could probably make one for cheaper then that (depending on deals I can get)
And for upload speed I'd say at least 50kbps per player and don't host client downloads from a residential connection as it will be incredibly slow
Hmm, well what if i got a business connection at a residential location? I'm looking at this optical internet stuff on the Cox Business website, but i'm not sure which connection i'd need to get the job done. And that's if it's even worthwhile to get such service at a residential location. You have any thoughts?
Here's the website i'm looking at:Optical Internet Features serving Gulf Coast | Cox Business
In the "Bandwidth/speeds available..." section, which option do you think would be most suited for hosting a pwi game server from a residential location? If any that is.
My personal recommendation... Don't waste the money (even if you're filthy rich) on that PC at tiger... Don't get me wrong I love tiger myself, but all you gotta do is keep your eyes peeled on eBay and you can find deals like this (for example): eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices
[yes I understand that one's over {I bought a few myself :D}]
Regardless, it does appear your head is in the correct place! You will need a machine with at LEAST 16GB of ram (for my release anyway)... and bandwidth -- probably is the biggest issue. I know 'business accounts' / 'business service' is commonly offered at physical residential locations (usually much faster and or less/no monthly 'caps')...
Although another personal recommendation -- I wouldn't dive in head first and order some really fancy connection either. Especially while you're just starting up... If and when your 'player base' begins to widen, then you should of course not only be capable of upgrading, but actually do so at the necessary time...
I think I would have to say starting with a normal 'residential' account/service with no less than ~3~4 Mbit/s up-streams would be a good starting place ;)
Oh and back to the machine, you'll never need 4 TB for a PW server ;) I will have to dig it up, but, I attempted to 'conclude' the "max" physical space a single character could take up HDD wise... It's floating somewhere around the boards here, even incl. a screen shot :)

oh yea, and like Das said -- don't host (both) the game server and your client download from the same connection (ofc that's just asking for problems)...
Wow...you own dude. eBay has this stuff way cheaper @_@ I have a 6 MB downstream residential connection right now, but i have no idea on the upstream, guess I'll have to call and check. I appreciate the tip on the client hosting too, because i probably would have done just that. Really pleased that you showed me these eBay prices though, i wasn't really happy about the price of that PC since i was originally thinking around $1500. But this was really helpful guys, greatly appreciated. I think I'll do some browsing on eBay now lol
The thing I like about eBay is the 'buyer protection'...
So pretty much, just make sure you're buying something that's not "as is" or at least has a non DOA 'guarantee' -- then as soon as you take receipt of it test it yourself (quite easy) first check the ram with memtest86+, then run prime95 on the CPU(s), then 'scan the HDD(s)' for any bad sectors...
I only say that because I know some ppl are skeptical about 'buying used'... I have had no problems yet, and even if I did I make sure whatever I'm buying isn't listed "as is" so I'd be protected by either eBay or paypal... (Well, I have had bad experiences with non computer stuff, and have successfully gotten a refund when it was justified, so I don't see it being any different for PC stuff :D)
Oh yea, and ofc you don't know what your upstream speeds are (not your fault) most companies don't advertise it, hell many companies own customer service reps don't even know, because it's not something most people care about (or even know about)... I know it took me eons to get answers about the upstream speeds for certain packages and whether there was a monthly 'bandwidth cap' (and what that was) or not from my own company =\
For internet, you seem to live somewhere that is out in the sticks given those speeds and you referring to having Cox Internet (so you do live in the US)

is what I have and you can use Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test to find your upstream bandwidth as well. For me if I decided to run a server over my own residential connection (which I won't, and given how much an actual connection I'd be happy with like the ones I can get from AWS or Softlayer is insanely expensive) would be no more then 100-120 players (6000kbps/50), but there would probably be a bit of lag depending on what kind of router you have. ANY residential router will have trouble keeping up with that many connections (easily shown by using bittorrent, most can support a large number of NAT connections to one specific machine but it just gives up if it needs to route to any others)especially if you want to use that connection at the same time.
Yeah, that's exactly what i was thinking about while i was browsing lol Buyer protection is definitely a plus. I think i found a decent server though, but i wanted to get a second opinion before i put in a bid.
Here's the link to the server i found: 2U Server 2x Quad Core Opteron 8 core 16GB NM46X RAID | eBay
It's not quite as good as the first one i posted, i believe, but for the price, i think it's pretty decent. Do you have any thoughts on it? Something in this price range or lower would definitely take alot of stress out of the learning process lol
That definitely doesn't look like a bad machine... Especially not for a first one, or one to 'learn on' -- and as long as you can 'afford' the $500 bill ($540 shipped) I'd say go for it
