Entirely out of curiosity, (and because I'm a noob at this), does anyone know what the "Vigor Points" option in the character properties of pwAdmin does?
Vigor means chi, my guess is that it means their max chi or whatever..
Crap..dumbass question, but how do you get Ubuntu out of the..MySQL mode I guess. I need to get back so I can edit those files, and I can't access it because I've already ran the MySQL.

Hiya, i have a problem that has left me scratching my head.
Today i logged onto the game, in readiness to bid for my 4th land being Thousand Streams.
To my horror :scared: all the maps have reset...no-one owns any territories anymore.
I know i havent been fiddling in the database and neither have i changed anything server side except for adding some scripts for PvP Top 50 in the registration side.
The only thing that has happened adversely to the server is that registrations stopped working last night and i had to re-boot VM to get them working again.
Im totally at a loss as to why this happened and im hoping someone out here has an idea.

BTW i quickly looked in /PWServer/gamedbd/dbhomewdb/dbdata/ for "city" and sure enough it is still there.
Im also adding that all factions are still present and functional.
Also..this server has been running for perhaps 3 months or so, it wouldnt have some reset function built in for every 3 months?

Edit Solution- Whatever the cause was (im suspecting a corrupted database) i had made a backup last week and replaced the "city" with the backup from last week.
Everything booted up just fine and Territories were back minus 1 week of progress.

Why do you say this 343? I am running Ubuntu 11.04 Desktop and it works just fine.

Provide some screenshots and/or more information about what you are doing. To me "mysql mode" is the mysql terminal in which 'exit' should exit out of the terminal. 'Ctrl + C' may also work too. If all else fails then restart the vm and you shouldn't be in whatever mysql mode you are in.

In terms of Desktop Ubuntu vs Ubuntu Server;
Using Desktop Ubuntu is like using a fork to cut something. While it may do the job its not going to be anywhere as effective as using a knife. The only reason I can see to use Desktop Ubuntu is if you want to run a test server and you use Desktop Ubuntu as your main OS. In this case it may seem pointless to run Ubuntu in a vm on Ubuntu. I personally would still use a vm however as its easier to transfer data and you can just delete the vm when done instead of reformatting.
Gnome is also horrible in my oppinion. It is so slow compared to other GUI's. Xfce or lxde are much better. Ubuntu server also comes without all the extra crap that comes bundled with desktop versions.
Its also doesn't hurt for people to learn how to use a computer from just the command line and or without a mouse and things. You never know when you might need to use that knowledge for something else.

What version of ubuntu are you using?
And thats not mysql. Its busy box. Your Ubuntu install must have some errors for it to drop to busy box. Have you tried starting from scratch again?
It could also be caused by an incorrect setting on your virtual machine. Also how much RAM does your server have?
ok, I'm using ubuntu Server, but thought that installing the GUI, (apt-get ubuntu-desktop), would make some things easier. Unfortunately, it just ended up making it hard to get at some things in the terminal so I just un-installed it again. LOLQuote:

Hiya everyone, this is more of a query about a problem ive encountered.
Every 2 days, sometimes every day i notice the maps just stop working..sometimes its not for 3 days.

I also have a question about the GM console and jail.
I have read and read over posts about the jail function.
From the admin notes i put in the coordinates for jail into the admin panel so that when i logged my char it was in jail.
In reading it seems to me that i could put a player in there and they would lose their teleport stones...however i have no idea how to "put a player" in there...apart from using admin panel to do so...and then they would still have their teleport stones.
From reading posts it was suggested many ways to do this but it seems this function of teleport stones deletion is automatic and so im making sure im not missing or mis-interpreting the jist of it.
Is there a way to teleport someone to jail from GM console?
If so how to do?
All ive managed to get work so far is ctrl G and these functions ive no problem with.
I feel ive missed a valid point here..i have no problem with doing the work if i need to but it seems the work is done but ive missed something important hence my noob question here.

In regard to jail, yes, it's all manually done -- From 'teleporting' (or 'placing') a character in there, and manually having to remove (if they have any) teleport stones...
I was thinking of creating a pwAdmin 'script' that would basically automatically do all this for you based on character # (place the character in there and remove any tele stones they may have), but never got around to it... I also am not aware of any ways a GM can 'teleport' using the GM menu/console =\
But the overall jist is, in place of 'banning' the people who 'mis-behave' I would place them in this JAIL (another reason I don't think it's too hard to manually do it)...

I ended up moving the server over to a physical machine, using a static ip.
Im absolutely brain dead atm from lack of sleep so please excuse me.
I have a problem that i cannot work out.
All my friends made new accounts but out of ten of them...2 had problems making an account.
The admin panel shows their account and phpmyadmin shows they have a password and that the accounts are present, however they are unable to log in.
Now if i go to force a password for them on this account it makes no difference either.
Its as if their accounts are corrupted...yet most other people have none of these issues.
In the end i make them an account manually.
Im using the script from renan thats posted here on ragezone, wondering if something here in renan script is causing it..or perhaps someone has encountered something similar and could shed some light on this.
Anyway any ideas would be muchly appreciated.

Edit: Ok it was the Renan script. It may be for the fact that ive not put it in the database correctly...but it was put in using phpmyadmin (i think from memory)..but yeh anyway i went back to the original script for now.
My users were immediately able to make accounts and log in :8:
Also i noticed with the script that if a user made an account that was too large in name, it would go through but from admin panel it made the accounts section view "bug out" by affecting the size of the table around the account name and once again user was not able to log in.
Im not saying it was the script..im guessing its my ability or phpmyadmin to apply the data correctly to the sql database.
Anywho im a happy camper now as everyone can make accounts np :thumbup1:

ok couple of questions, have arisen since I woke up this morning to discover that my system is shut down, AND that it will no longer let me log on as root. (Still can't figure this one out, because I've reset the root password and it tells me it's incorrect when I try to login, yet when I use "su root" with the root password, rather than giving me an authentication failure, it says "Operation not permitted".)
Anyway, having to back up all of my files from a live CD now and re-image the system, has anyone tried this on 11.10?
Or, if I remain on 10.04, is it okay to apply updates?
On a side note, GUI's suck. I discovered this the hard way.
Also, I agree with what 343 says there. He's got a lot of stuff already inside of the package, it just might not be activated because it isn't fully functional. (Or for some other reasons I am sure =P ) In any case, the fun is in the discovery. Trying to merge parts of this, rather complete, release with other client/server releases is just begging for troubles and headaches. The fun is in the exploring. (Hell, I've spent more time tinkering with settings and modding to add some of the content existing within the release already than I have actually playing it.)
