private solo and me and my son connect pc to pc or through the router with the internet cable out. (i will learn one day want to learn when a 1.4.4 version comes out to public so me and a friend came play. I dont care for $$).
Making SS as i go . you can use as reference to sticky's and other noobs like me

Just so you know, the 343pw.torrent allows direct downloads

and the VMWare archive was not created by me, I did it for supra as an unsolicited favor because Jumbofiles is slow as all hell. So if you want support ask supra for it. All the other files were created by 343 and he will support them.

I am not saying a am 4 years old total noob to a mouse and pc.
29 yr. But I keep getting one or 2 words and expect me to know what i am doing. I did mention i do not speak the lingo and less linux lingo.
i'll tell exactly what i have and how easy it is for a person with no knowlege can get stuck in 3 seconds with rasional reason.
step 1 - download torrent. done, 2 - copy of os. done,
3 - VMW, done,
4 - install os first problem but lets say its a no brainer.

next step i ran into this.
i dont know what i am doing. since i have 6 gig ram and barely run anything all day i put 40 gigs of space and 2 gig ram

what do i write here. its asking for root/ command i dont speak linux so i am asumming this is where 343 tut kick in.
343 tut. if you've installed Ubuntu (or any other flavor of Linux that may actually 'disable' the root account) you need to first log in as the 'normal user' that you created during installation and 'activate' the root account by doing the following
Code: (sudo passwd root)the rest of these steps should be performed as 'root' So off i go with writting exactly that.

Mount server ISO (or physical disc), and copy all to system root

i wrote it mount /dev/dcrom /cdrom cd /cdrom cp -R * / all in one line is this correct ? capital r and the * when you hold shift then hit 8.

40gb of hdd space is overkill. You only need around 10gb. In saying that I have only used 3.8gb of my 10gb.
The server is extremely ram hungry so you want to give your server all the ram you can spare. 1gb or 2gb is not enough. Since you said you have 6gb of ram I would say 3gb-4gb would be best. I have allocated 5gb of my 8gb for my server. Whatever you do, DO NOT use excessive amounts of swap. Keep in mind that even with 4gb you will not be able to run all maps so you will have to start and stop them when you want to.
After you have changed the password you need to log out and log back in as root.
You can log out by typing the following in the terminal
Then login withCode:logout
After that is done you should be able to run all the commands.Code:root password you set earlier
Before you run
I would advise you to runCode:apt-get install ia32-libs
You need to mount the server_iso in vmware then runCode:apt-get update
If you get an error about mount point does not exist then you need to make the directory first.Code:mount /dev/cdrom /cdrom cd /cdrom cp -R * /
Then rerun the mount commandsCode:mkdir /cdrom
Didnt want to quote your post, the VMWare.7z file belongs to supra, neither I nor 343 created it so ask him for assistance if that is what you are using.
If not use a clean Linux install and not that archive.
thanks for the tips i am stuck on the last part in my screen shot
it looks to me like its advice some command because i did the last part wrong. mkdir already exist so i went back to trying to write the above step. also if i do manage to get it right what i do from here. continue with 343 tut and follow this step
