you need a SERVER version on linux, so no GUI. also it doesn't matter what version.

You could use Kubuntu with KDE. That comes with a GUI ( KDE) but when using Linux you will see that the console is much more powerfull ( and in many cases it saves time ! )
BTW its not that hard as it looks at first. You will get the hang of it very fast if you are really interested in learning it

vBox is much better than vmware. But thats just my opinion.
D: Don't tell them that. A lot of people who try and use GUI's end up making things 100x worse and have a lot of permission errors. Its so much simpler and easier to use a server version without the GUI. Also KDE is horrible. Xubuntu would be better as xfce is where its at. lxde is also nice for a more Windows like GUI. In regards to vbox and vmware, it all depends on personal preference. They both do the same thing. I myself prefer virtualbox while 343 swears by vmware. Take your pick and use it. You might like to try vmware since that is what 343 uses in his video.
For a home server its ok i think. Sure the permission thing is quite complicated with that but as i said, console is much more powerfull
Uhm i prefer KDENow im waiting for the next one posting that Gnome is the best choice

(Sorry zorno but) DO NOT listen to ZORNO ~~ IT IS NOT OKAY TO USE GUI for a server, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE! You will ONLY be asking for more problems than it will be worth. (Drakaer is right on that one)
Also Drakaer hit the nail right on the head, I personally prefer VMware and could sit here and tell you why and how it's better than VBOX until you were blue in the face. Although as friendly as my release is it can be used on or in any kind of set up that you desire. You can set this up on a physical machine, or in a VM using VMware, or yes, even vbox

okok thank you i use vbox player but how to install the ubuntu server??
how you want a server if u cant do even the most easyest thing ever..
try on first page there is a video too , i understund tht is hard but first look around most of questions been awnsered.
