Heres another dumb question, are the pck files limited to a certain size because I tried adding some new models and to my models.pck but when I go to run my client it gives me an error mentioning models.pck in the error.
I added files to surfaces.pck and gfx.pck and they seem to be ok but my models.pck now stops the client from loading. I do have a back up of the old one but would rather find out what went wrong with the new one.
I would try re doing the process as something may have corrupted during unpack or repack process. Could possibly even be elements trying to reference something not right in models.
Yeah I did try repacking already, my first and second attempt at packing with an older version of sPCK was producing errors, so I got a latest version of sPCK hoping it would work and it did, repacked without errors but the client wouldn't load, so I repacked it again and still the same thing, so now I am unpacking the files with the new sPCK and repacking them, hopefully this will solve it but I got a bad feeling it wont :O
Edit: Nope, it still doesn't work, I'm running out of ideas.

That does sound weird, can't say I've had that happen to me either =\
Do you think it could be having trouble reading past a certain file size? The repacked models.pck was 2.09GB, the files I am putting into my models.pck are from the PWi models.pck, I'm basically merging the two together, tried overwriting all files, then tried just adding the files that weren't there already and still the same.
Just had an idea actually, gonna try merging the models.pck from your previous release and see if that makes any difference.
can you verify MD5/size of the current release?
mine is 1,126,731,776 bytes (I don't have the MD5 currently, will grab a program for that in a bit)
md5: 2D35DD277AFB609DE6A46AA9D1B2D13F

I don't see any point in thing that you are doing, why don't you just sMODfix PWI's models? If 343 has any files from others wanmei games in models.pck (in which i doubt, because for new maps you don't need models) you can copy them (and not replace!) to your PWI sMODfixed models.
btw. my unpacked models got 2.59 GB and that's PW files only. JD and FW i am keeping in configs.

The point to me doing this is so I can make more mobs instead of using the same ones that are already in the game. A game gets a bit dull if you see the same mobs everywhere you go.
Tideborn and Genesis areas are empty and I would like to fill them but I don't want to fill them with the same old mobs, not to mention I would like to make some more bosses as well, fill out some dungeons and maybe even make special mobs for events and other things. I have many ideas I would like to try and granted I am new to this but I am learning, before I started this I knew nothing about even setting up a server and now I'm getting to grips with what I need to do, I want to know more and more untill hopefully I will be as good as the rest of you guys here.
You may be happy with the way the release is now but I want to make it better and make it my own so to speak.
My models.pck was 2.09GB packed, unpacked it was 3.64GB
OK, i see, but still you are better off keeping custom models in other pck (for example configs or grasses). Otherwise you will waste a lot off time in packing / unpacking your files.
I didn't realise they would work like that, I will give it a try. Would it be possible to create a secondary model.pck, for example models2.pck. Was looking through the elementclient.exe to find references to models.pck but had no luck and I assume it isn't as easy as making the .pck and putting into the elements.data models2\npcs\chinesename\etc..
Yeah, you can always add other models to other packs or even create your own custom pack? (I think??? Clarification anyone???)
But by putting them in other packs, like avalance said, it means it won't take so long packing and unpacking
Indeed, everyone is 'new' at one point in time or another... I really like your hungering desire to broaden your knowledge, and your ambitions to correspond with others here on a higher technical level.
I think you'll do just fine ;)
But to get more back to topic at hand, I would attempt 'fixing' those models you're trying to 'import' from PWi using sMODfix (as someone else has already pointed out)
If assuring all models you're trying to 'import' have been 'fixed' and it still crashes... Then IDK, maybe there is a file size limit on the PCK @.@
Also:
@nameless and everyone here:
I would recommend adding to an existing pack (for anything) opposed to creating a 'custom' pack. If I am not mistaken CPW does NOT support anything other than the 'default' PCKs...
back @twister:
First and foremost make sure any GFX ECMs etc... are 'fixed' before they go into any pack. As any un-fixed files of this nature can and will cause the client to crash...
Ok thanks, I've just combined the PWi models.pck with the one from your older release and it works fine, apart from the mob I tested standing there like it's got a stick up it's rear end, obviously need to fix those. So I think it's safe to assume that the .pcks have a limit of 2GB I would say.
At least it's the only thing I can think of that would stop it from working.
