[TUT] Deathnite's how to Texture thread

    hey all!
im going to learn you all how to texture your weapons gunz like style.

    Sub-Titles Listed below:
    1. Hi today im going to show you how to make a basic metal texture using blender and photoshop.
    2. Ok, so now let's get started.
    3. To start off you should have a basic shape or mesh in ur scene.
    4. Now you have to press the: "U" key then "unwrap" (smart projections)
    5. then change the Agnle limit to 89 (eigthy nine) and press OK
    6. now just use a basic image with a equil hight and width. i used a image with a 900 pc hieght and 900 px width
    7. now press ctrl alt b then Ambient Occlusion this will change ur texture in to a AO Map
    8. now go to images in your Uv/image editor window and press save as. you can save it as anything you want
    9. now open the AO Map in photoshop and drag in a Concrete texture, a colored rust texture and a flaked look metal texture.
    10. Now place the Concrete texture below the Ao Map. and set the AO map to mulitply
    11. place the rust texture above the AO MAP and set it to overlay on about 20% opacity
    12. place the metal with the flaked look above the rust layer and set it to overlay on about 50% opacity
    13. now make a scratchy looking brush and use the paint brush tool to go over the lines of the blade or gun
    14. when your done going over the lines with the bursh set it to overlay
    15. duplicate that layer and set it to about 50% opacity
    16. Now use the pen tool to make the cutting edge and set it to overlay
    17. to make scratches take out ur line tool and randomly add lines to the layer

    ::NOTE::
To make a Ambient occlusion map look the best, you have to add as mutch as details as posible!! ambient occlusion is a automatic light mapping technique. it automaticly gives a shadow to your mesh / model.

    i would say use 1280 x 1280...

Honestly uv mapping with 3ds is so much better xD

btw, leaving all your edges in the corner like you did is very unwise... you should do it by hand, seeing that you know exactly what you are texturing then

yeah thats true but there was just 1 edge i needed and that was found pretty easily so it doesnt mather that mutch all the others where from the handle of the blade. thoes diddent need texturing.
