    [TUT]Host a forum on a WAMP server - Screenshots! - noob friendly[TUT]

Respect my tutorial by not copying, but if you do re-post on other forums, to give credit to LittleLukeh/Treods/Sky Gunz and to link here.
Copying is the dumbest thing you could ever do.

    What you need:

    - WAMP (which you should already have if you have a website)

    - phpBB3 files (these forums are free, if you have other forums, it should work the same)
    download phpBB3 files here: http://www.ohloh.net/p/phpbb/downloa...hpBB-3.0.5.zip

    - Basic WAMP and Website knowledge, if you don't have a website hosted with WAMP then use the SEARCH button, and search for a tutorial on how to make one, and one you have one, come back here to learn about setting up a forum.

If you have all of these, lets get started :)

    1) Extract/drag & drog the phpBB3 folder from the download ZIP into C:/wamp/www/

    2) When the phpBB3 folder is in C:/wamp/www you can delete the download ZIP folder if you saved it to harddrive, you may not want to but, I personally hate wasted space lol, assuming you have a WAMP website, go to http://youripaddress/phpBB3/

youripaddress is the internet ip address not your local, go to http://www.ipchicken.com/ to find it

The first page you will see is an introduction page, click on the INSTALL tab, click 'proceed to next step' you will see a list, mostly of green YES's if you see some red unavalibles don't be too scared.
This is a list of the unavalibles I get

Just scroll down to the bottom and click "Start Install" amd you are confronted by what looks like an irritating page.
on this page, i got scared and started thinking, "SHOOT, DATABASE!?!?" and started loading up MS Server Manager, but you don't need that, because WAMP has a phpMyadmin, and you host your forum on there.
    So at this page.

left click the WAMP icon and click on phpMyAdmin

Then a page will open up, either in a new window, or new tab depending on browser settings, this is where you host the database.

on this part of the page

type in "phpbb" leave everything as it is, and click Create.

when the green bar that says "database created" appears, click the HOME icon on the far left, then click the "PRIVILEDGES" tab, and below the little table, you need to click "ADD A NEW USER" and fill the fields in as follow (don't change any drop downs unless instructed by me)

    Username: phpbb
Host: (change the drop down to localhost and it will fill itself in)
Password: *whatever you want it to be*
    Re-type: *retype the password*
    leave the generate bit alone.

Then scroll straight to the bottom of the page and click "GO"
Then Click the "Privlidges" tab so you see this page, and click the icon i arrowed, next to the phpbb user you just created.

On the next page you are going to want to tick all the boxes.

and then click the GO button that is on the right of the blue bar just under the tick boxes.

    3) Go back to the Database Settings Page, on the forum installation, and copy the screenshot images, and in the password field, you enter the password you entered when you created a new user a few steps back.

And then proceed to next step :)

You're forum database has been created!
Click Proceed to next step and on this page you are basiclly an account on your forum but this is the main admin account that controls everything so give it a simple name like "Admin" or "Administrator" or on my forum I named it "Sky Gunz"

Then go to the next page.
Keep Procceding to next page until you get to the "Advanced Settings" page and you don't need to change anything and if you notice, at the bottom where it says DOMAIN NAME, you're internet IP/no-ip address has been entered there, so its will be hosted online.

Then keep procceding until you get to the login page, and when you click login you get put straight into the admin control panel.

    You have almost finished.
Now, goto C:/wamp/www/phpbb3/ and delete the folder "install" and then you have finished.

Just add your forums, catagories, etc. and to view your forum, click board index in the top right of the screen of the Admin Control Panel.

And your public forum link is http://whateveryouripornoipis/phpbb3/

    Enjoy :)

well, I've only used wamp once or twice before when I had this crazed fantasy of being the best maplestory developer back when I was a kid. Ever since I haven't touched it. But I'm assuming it wouldn't be just as simple as putting the forum folder into the www folder for wamp (I'm saying this because I haven't read the tutorial), so if there are more steps involved, then bravo.

it sorta is that easy, with a couple of easy steps it takes like 10mins to setup but thats because i know what im doing, itll take like a max of 20mins if you follow step-by step.
