Also, note that if you want the geomobject you made to appear in salamander armor, you need to name it with a 19 instead of a 18 in the name. (the geomobjects with 18 in their name are for doom armor)

Try to attach the two parts of your sword (select one of the object in edit mesh, click attach then select the other part) and reajust the pivot.

Try to rotate the object in hierarchy, not the pivot.
Short sword is a 1 handed weapon. The weapon you are holding seems to be a 2 haneded weapon. Try to replace the 2 haneded skin with Long Sword or something like that, which is a 2 handed weapon. I think that will work.
A friend of mine had the same problem as you have. He had replaced a 1 haneded weapon with a weapon he build himself which was a 2 handed weapon, he said. I told him to replace it with a 2 haneded weapon, he did and it worked for him.

the only thing that i use for 1 weapon is a part of a skin (from the axe-blade) so be4 u know anything for sure dont say a thing or ask it to me personally be4 posting this noncense.

How come, some of the items I try to replace with my models will not change? Such as itWS103 and itWS102?

hi jess, check if the item code exist in the game and the server, u know, normally the items are from 101 to 122 and some times to 124, the items and about the ws, from 101 to 122 are bows, from 201 to 225 are swords, so check if the code is correct, maybe u have a custom code remplacing the old one. In order to get the item working, u must have same item code in server (the complete table) and in the client, also the same name in the txt-zhoon file, with that, the item must work well.

Now i have a problem. I tryied to follow the guide to add a material to an armor posted some pages ago and the game logs in fine. But when i put the armor on i get DC. What I'm I doing wrong?
its about how you edited the ase file, maybe you did something wrong, you should post the Ase to let me see what you did. Remember to put the bmp file in the right place also.
You dont need to upload the file, just open with the notepad and paste in a new reply.

I can't seem to use 3dWin5. But I suspect that's because it's reliant on that .com file, x64 OS stopped supporting 16-bit DOS applications. Maybe it would work under DOSBox. Or is the version I eventually found just really really old? lol
i suggest to use 3D max studio, but if u cant or just dont want, and if u cant find that program, i suggest then Wings3d.
Want a free program?, really good?, an official-free-full working-powerfull program?, well go for Blender 3D, with that program u can do entire games it self with its Motor.
When i started to moddel my first items for PT, i did with wings 3D, is ez to find, u can get tons of tutorials around the net (or youtube) and in one day u can start to build ur items, in the next day u will lern how to texturize them.
Are these instead of 3dWin5 Soy? As in, do you actually not need 3dWin5 if you use 3D Studio Max, Wings 3D or Blender?
it depends of wich format - mesh willyou open, 3d has a really big collection of plugins to import many mesh formats, same as Blender.
Wings 3d is a simple program to moddel, really ez to understand but cant manage alot of formats but with that you can export the mesh as an obj and use in any 3d program like max, blender, maya.

Does anyone know why I can not create custom items anymore?
I use to be able to do it just fine!
But, not any time I try to create a new item,
as soon as I log-in, i get a stupid game.exe, and it wont stop unless I remove the .ase file and put the old .smd back.
maybe the .ase file is too big? I don't know!

Newer versions of the game.exe do not have the .ase to .smb / .smd caching routine, they require the binary form, not the ascii .ase.
You need to convert the .ase to it's binary cache form first, and then use it in a modern client... possibly the best way to do this is from the server, which has not changed, and which should see custom items before they are given to the client anyway, AFAIK.
But I have no 3D skill, so I have never done this. I can only read the code, and see how it should work. It's possible the server is only interested in maps, npcs and player meshes.

I get that idea from the fact that if I tell 24xx or late 19xx clients to load a .ase file, they refuse. If I do the same thing with a 17xx or early 18xx client, they read it and make an SMD / SMB cache file so that I can then delete the .ase...
or at least they would if every .ase I made wasn't completely duff. I made a box once, but it didn't really work out. :lol: It proved the newer clients didn't create the binaries though.
When I say newer... I tend to use Japanese and English clients to play with, and which routines are included in different language versions vary. Like, the English version doesn't process hotuk.ini, the code is still there, but nerfed to the point it just won't match anything. So there may be more to it than release date. :wink:

All textures must be TGA or BMP. TGA files must be 24 or 32 bit (non-palletised) bottom to top order uncompressed textures. BMP files must be 24 bit RGB without RLE compression.
Export to ASE file in Max. Remove any and all SMD / SMB files you are trying to replace with your new item.

Yes there is, actually. The news is that Sandurr released his SMD to ASE converter, so you can now import the original meshes into your 3D program and base new models on that. ^_^
It's not perfect, and I'm sure he'd welcome development that would improve it's export rate, which is why he shared the source code with us. :wink:
Also, Vormav is working on a way to make the game display the main body armour, boots, gloves, and armlets separately on every player. You can find details of what he's doing and some information on how in this thread. ^_^ NJoy.

I tested this smd to ase converter and it's work really nice with monsters. But I tried to do same with armors and when I import it in 3ds max, i get an error and I just see a simple rectangle.
I just do same as I do for monster but got this error. I don't know how to use the source codes. I just know how to model things in 3ds max.

The only way i could import the converted armor ase's were (tip by Sungam3d) to rename the SMB (file which contains the animation coordinates) to the same name that the SMD you are converting, and in the same directory (folder). (..its a bore to find out the right SMB though XD..)
When i did it on this way, i could import (to 3dsmax 5 and 7, the max 6 i couldn't run here..) the whole body with the bones animations, but the rigging (the link between the animated bones and vertexes/meshes) was lost.. i couldn't see the animations on the 3ds :(.. maybe i done something wrong..
