Ah the "parameter error", I had this also on Windows 8, theres a few things you could do. Shrugs, not sure if it will help but worth a shot
1)Switch back to Windows 7 f3
2)This error is sometimes caused because you have to many things running at once (task manager)
3)Change the client's properties to Windows 7/XP
I play maple on my Windows 8 laptop and was able to fix the problem using the 2 & 3 method.
Right click the client, compatibility mode > windows 7/XP. Make sure you restart after that, and it should run fine.
I think we all know that, but some of us have no choice but to use it(me) (lol, I can switch to Windows 7, but do I really want to reinstall shit and bla bla bla bla?). So, honestly, if you have nothing to say to help this person, don't even reply? Like honestly. How the fuck is that going to help? I've heard like.... 5000 people on this section say Windows 8 sucks, end of story. Don't have to repeat it 5000 times.
Also @op, try clicking on it 5000 times.
I use Windows 8, and I do code and test in v83.
Had the same problem, it worked one day, the another, it just did not.
The solution is simple.
Change the compatibility to Windows XP Service Pack 3, and run as administrator, it will work. Once it loads, if you turns to windowed mode, it will throw an error about not having some .dll. You just press OK, and it will work just fine.
Windows 8 for the win?
I was just saying windows 8 was shit. Also Liv3 the thing you said about the comparability mode was correct. I didn't see a reason to help other to say my thoughts on windows 8 :)
Forgot to mention, that error also shows up if you're using port 8080. So, yeah, you must close everything to avoid less problems.
Everything X-Tasis said. If that doesn't work, I find my method to work. You have to be very accurate though. This might sound stupid but it works, haha.
1. Close Google Chrome & all the other applications (Including Skype).
2. Minimize everything.
3. Open the client (Through a shortcut in your desktop, with comptability to Win XP Serivce Pack 3 or Windows 7).
4. After you double-click to open it, quickly open a new Google Chrome window in a small window and place it on the right of your monitor.
5. Should work.
You're all missing a few things. Right click the client and then click run as administrator and run in windows 7/windows xp service pack 3 compatability. Then right click it again and shortcut it to desktop. Then try. If that doesnt work, go back to the client again and right click it again>properties>compatability tab again, and then click reduced color mode and set it to 8 bit. If that doesnt work try set it higher.
To be honest it's really random. He should just try experimenting and find his own way to launch it. I've found mine after messing around with it. Some methods work, some don't. I'll try to work on a program that will start any v83 localhost flawlessly on windows 8, I'll see what I can do.
i honestly didnt think i would get this many replys thanks everyone for trying to help!
I know this thread is kind of dead, but I think this would save some people time.
After using all the methods I mentioned myself, and using external ones, I was getting the same error over and over... Until I just came up with an equal stupid idea that worked just fine and doesn't seems to bug me as previous method and is more logical compared to others solutions.
The method is just this:
1. Run MapleStory.exe, get the Parameter error. Do not click "OK".
2. Run again MapleStory.exe, it should works now. then, you can close the message.
