idea [Emulators] Studying of what's going on in server software life.

    Hello Everyone,

First of all I would like to introduce myself to regulars. I am a
computer science student and running few server-side projects mainly
based on VALVe half-life2 engine. As well as doing placement year, I
am beginning to be interested more and more in launching mmorpg
private server which seems to be an AION family.

After studying AION server software (mainly emulators) for few days I
afraid to run into conclusion that something bad is happening here?
Since I am skilled java programmer I found out choosing open source
java emulator a perfect choice. But Bam, they all are closed?

Now to the list of emulators I had a look:
Aion-unique is officially discontinued on 30th Jul which is making it
outdated briefly for 3 months. So this choice is going to be doomed
with new bugs coming out of client updates by official AION

    aion-emu emulator:
All I could find is that ***********.de are still using it for
servers, though the site seems to be redirecting(?) to aionrage.com
which announces closure of private game server. I afraid it also
means that they closed aion-emu project? Sad..

Thanks god the latest open source I could find is alive. Moreover it
seems to be absolutely fresh, so my question is it stable enough to
work with? I couldn't find any valuable information about this
project except that it's based of aion-unique closed project. Their
forum is also not very helpful, only announcements section where we
can't post, why is it a forum then? But to those who still did not
find where aion-lightning located it's the link to their 1-paged
    wiki: Home | Aion-Lightning Space | Assembla

Conclusion which I would like to try reaching with you:
there is only 1 open source project left and 10 days old?
is AION emulators era dying or is it just born?
Could someone give more information of what is happening in 'aion'
    emulators life now?

P.S. I have registered at aion lightning forum and more topics were
disclosed for me. I will try to study this forum and grab more information.

AION is still only a newish game, the first server i remember being developed for it was Aion-Emu which was coded in C++ i believe this was used as a based and ported into java where it become known as aion-unique etc.. Now both these projects are closed aion-lightning is a continuum of aion-unique but appears to be closed source which sucks, i personally never liked the idea of servers been coded in java they should have remained in C++ it gives better performance.

Re: [Emulators] Studying of what's going on in server software life.

The very first work was done by Luno , Nemesis and SoulKeeper (aion-emu) ...
    When aion-emu closed , aion-unique was made , after that aion-lightning and zetta-core(closed dev), then aion-lightning divided in to 2 groups (open source(AL) and closed source(aion-engine) ) ...

Now AL is closed and aion-engine is closed source(nothing changed since back then) , however , if you know java , you can get into development in AE i guess ... same goes for AL.

Looks like we can also add Aion-Engine to the closed list as well like cubars mentioned above, here is the messege he left on the AE forum

    Aion Engine is Over
    by Magenik

    "Hello guys
I gonna stop dev aion engine for public
We've got bastard into our team who join just for get 2.1 source
but i learn my leasson i stop dev for you
Now 3.0 is near and coming soon only ppl i trust will get it from me i dont need help i was doing it for free
I did prove to u that 1.9 2.0 and 2.1 opcode was made by me and kaipo u got the prove now from 2.1 release and those stealer zdgay pretend that was them who made them from AU forum
well it was nice work with Fuckard now enjoy stealling work
ohh yea i did took zdead code cause he stole mine before so i fuck this french guys even if i m french they really bastard ppl trust me

    good bye"

Here's the part i found ironic about this other statement made by Magenik

    By Magenik

"it's because as i said they was counting on ppl contribution for deving their server if no one contribute no point be open source right ? its what i understand from their action

but not here, here we wont tell you leechers cause we share what we are doing so we give what we produce and we dont remove thing that we have on our own server public rev = developpers rev its 100% same

its so dam disapointed thing they made about AL name

i wonder how long their team gonna stay alive with this things they just made"

In the grand scheme of things it is a sad day to know that so many ppl will be denied because of a few. In the end it is the innocent who will pay the price and be denied. Long live those who openly share with the community, they are the heroes we (whom haven't the skill and/or knowledge to dev) look up to and respect.

I, personally look at it this way...my kids like to play on the p-server(s) made from the packs, repacks, files from here. And I like to see my kids smile. So, any person that can help me put that smile there...well..you better believe that person is a hero in my book.

even though that was a big BUMP on the thread, I have to agree with rubixcube40. (I don't have kids yet, I just like the point he' making)

    Thank you very much Vernikov.
I hope that development of Aion lasts long after I am but dust and a faint memory. I have nothing but the utmost respect for the Devs and countless other people whom have brought so much entertainment and joy to so many.

As far as i know there're 3 Aion projects ongoing right now ...

    AionJ-Hungary
aionj-hungary - Aion server emulator - Google Project Hosting

    Aion X Emu
aionxemu - Aion Emulation Project - Google Project Hosting

    Open Aion
    Open-Aion

Btw , AionJ-Hungary are rewriting and optimizing almost everything in their emu , while others are continuing work done after aion-emu, aion-unique, etc ...

Re: [Emulators] Studying of what's going on in server software life.

    Thank you cubars.

Would you happen to know if AionJ-Hungary will be adapting an English version of their work? My family and I are keeping an eye on the Development of 2.5 with great anticipation. I looked into the Aion Open site...they have a "progress" meter....(not sure if it's quite 100% accurate or not) but it is (at present) 40% completed on the 2.5 files. (They claim). Personally, I choose to hold fast to the belief that someone here will come through and save the day.

What do you mean by adapting english version ? Emulator is in english language and supports NA/EU clients ..

Twas the "J-Hungary", which prod me into assuming that it would be coded in a different language.

    I really should stop...."assuming".
Thank you again though for replying.
