What's the Chatserver for ?

Title says it all :)

I have no clue what the chatserver does and before I set it to work with my gameserver (and loginserver if required, i dunno :S), can someone tell me what it's purpose is ?

The chatserver actually connects you into the available channel in the game such as trade channel and etc,this explanation was given by my friend though

Sorry,i just don't know how to explain things heh.
Hmm,lets see,chatserver its like a channel.
When you logged into the game,you will be connected to those channels.
Try to setup a chatserver and u will notice the differences
