    wink A few questions~Servers/Files etc..

    Hi :)

Don't go crazy on me coz I'm a little newbie :D

I've been a Fiesta retail and pserver player for a while now (idk 3 or 4 years) and recently got to browsing this forum and decided to try out setting up my own pserver.

I mainly want some advice if thats ok......I have some knowledge regarding servers/scripts/programming etc..

So atm I'm only looking at myself and maybe a few testers using it so I don't need any major, just basics to get me going :)

Who do you guys recommend hosting a fiesta pserver with?
Do I need to specifically buy/rent a "game server"?
Are there set minimum specs I would need?
Will I need a separate server for the login server and the actual game server?

I've seen a lot of server side files etc to d/l, are they all similar or is there one file release that is better than others?

Atm I have d/l the files from Stu's ES Launcher thread to create my Launcher, and I believe I will need to d/l the client side files separately?

Is this a case of just d/l Gamigo/OS setup or do I need to find a PS that's using the client that matches my server side?

God I hope that all makes sense to someone and I don't look too much like a retard xD

Pre-emptive thank you for any help and sorry if these are answered elsewhere I did look o.0

    xx

You can run a fiesta pserver off of your own home computer if you're just going to be learning how it works. There is no need for separate computers for the log in and the game. If you want to give friends/testers access later on you can use Hamachi to do it. Be warned though that people have reported that Hamachi does lag the game the game for your friends. I've never had this problem but it's best to make you aware anyway. All server files apart from Catalyst only need about 6GB of ram but if you don't have that, you can just run one zone and learn off of that. All the pserver file releases given here are different in their own ways so since your learning it might be best to just find a clean set and start with them. I'll leave some links for the server files and a client so you can get started. I might be wrong in some areas but I think I got everything you asked about. I hope no one sees you as a retard since you asked some good questions and didn't just ask for someone to set it up for you. Good luck with your pserver.

There are loads, just google Dedicated Server, find the cheapest you possibly can with the right specs.
If your only wanting a test server, then you don't need the secure expensive things.

Yes windows, I'd say 8 gig, 100mbit connection, MSSQL if they will provide free.
Everything else does not really matter.

While getting this information is good, it's kind of useless at the current time. Focus on learning the basics, reading some guides and mess up on your home computer before you decide if you want to rent/buy a server.

Dedis are quite cheap now days, you could get a half decent setup for around 70 bucks.

It's still a waste of money until you know what you're doing. You might find it difficult and then give up and then your stuck with a dedi you don't need. I say it's best to start off on a home computer before moving up in the world so to speak. Of course this is just my opinion. You're free to do what you like with your money and time.

You can always sell on the dedi to a third party, theres loads of people who will buy a dedi for like $1-2 a day.
