Wanting to start my own project ( very nub )

I am interested in building my own server but I know next to nothing about how to do this. I have been a staff member on a p. server but was never able to learn the dev side of it.

SO I am wondering what all I would need to get started. Any links and help would be much appreciated. Thank you.
