Oracle is not exactly needed.
You can change the database type via the DbIndex flag on ZoneServerConfig.ini.
EDIT:
Now running on MSSQL 2005,no errors at all but character selection/character creation won't work.

I know what will help maybe:
the client must be configured to the server and there are 2 ways to do it:
1st way:
1)Use my guide to unpack the init_....agt or smth like that in Data_TW folder (NOT THE ONE FROM DATA FOLDER) and copy the files from the unpacked agt to the server files (Init,Data, Data_TW) replacing the old files so the server will be for that client.
2nd way:

Hm,the server files are complete.I can't find a client that works with it tho.It fails to parse the info from the character info packet due to a different format.The solution is either to
1.Change the packet structure to support 0.4i(Hardest solution,not sure how to achieve it).
2.Find a working client(Might take long).
a working client ? did you try the 0.5 version ?

Working client(Should allow us to go ingame etc):
Drift City Taiwan Closed Beta Client.ijji's 2007 beta client could work too,but I can't seem to be able to unpack it.If somebody could post a link to the TW Closed Beta client,I would appreciate it.I believe the structure of the character select/character loading packet has changed a lot.

I *think* the values are 0 for Oracle, and 1 for MSSQL.
