[Client Improve] The sound & Music folders.

    Hello dear RageZone community,

Here I start this new thread in the development section because I came across something I thought pretty interesting while trying to improve, and reduce as much as I could my client size.

I didn't find any old thread talking about it.

    So there it is :

    1) I checked the sound folder, wave structure, 705kbits/sec (pretty hight bitrate for this kind of sound ?) From this I checked more informations in source about how files were decoded and read.

From this I re-encoded some files, here an exemple:

    Normal 705kbits/sec ColosseoumPeoPleCheer.wav = 2,79mo
    Re-encoded 128kbits/sec ColosseoumPeoPleCheer.wav = 259ko
Using this on the whole sound folder would reduce its size from 220mo to 20mo !

    2) About the Music folder, the format is quite diffrent Lol -> Ogg
So far I could only reduce its size by 2. Well the folder would go from about 80mo to 40mo.

About the new sound quality, it stays descent for this kind of sound, and the music part isn't much affected.

    Usefull ? Useless ?
Let me know what you think about it, also if it worths it.

    Best regards,

But hmm, what program did you use to re-encode them?
i don't wanna use FL studio just to render some little wave-s T_T

I first tryed it with audacity and started auto multi-rendering using Super, which actually is a pretty long process and can give you out many errors and memory overflow without a descent cpu/memory I guess.

I'm actually doing it so if you think it might be usefull, don't bother doing it, I'd release it on ragezone when everything is encoded.

For the sounds, I actually rendered 205 files out of about 1675.

I'll do the music part manualy (file by file), but this will be pretty fast I think.

I wouldn't touch the sound effects(Sound folder sounds) They are already small :/
I made a gui for a converter ones it works for all files :)
Only you have to change the extension since it converts video's to xD Making it oga and ogv :P but it is really a ogg file :D.
It is made quickly for one of my internships. So didn't put much time into it.
It is handy for converting a whole folder if you are really planning that o.o lol

Pretty sure MP3 files can have a variable bit rate, so #4 there's moot :I

That being said, ogg vs mp3 is kinda like png vs gif, it is quite a bit better from everything I've read.

True, mp3 does not need to have stable bitrate.
