It's been forever since I've played Final Fantasy VII, but I think I know what you mean. The v6 skill system was nice, but it should be harder to level them like you said. Private servers are way too easy.
It would be nice to see the game develop a new, much more interesting plot (clowns are boring). The party war idea sounds like fun.
Instead of the current system, there should be a really long chain quest in order to convert an item to ultimate. There should be an even harder one to make it an ultimate +10.
The party exp could also be redone so there's more of a benefit in forming a party. The way it is now, you can pretty much solo by yourself and it's more of a penalty to you to work with someone if you can avoid it. It should be the other way around, but not to where the monsters are too overpowered.
It would also be pretty cool if the game was fixed so that you could fight monsters in the cities, but not be able to PK. Maybe have it set so that a guild could complete a chain quest which causes a city to be invaded by monsters or something.
It would be nice if there were more classes. The same 8 choices get boring after a while. Maybe do something like a class and then a subclass specialization or something. For example, a knight can complete a really hard chain quest to become either a defender (focuses on defense) or a warrior (focuses on strength and attack speed).
That's all I could think of.....for now.
