    "kurt-PC\Jacob Stanley" is a named pipe. kurt-PC is the name of the computer, and where Jacob Stanley is (I'm assuming that's your username?) is where the instance of SQL Server is supposed to be. Most likely, it's "kurt-PC\SQLEXPRESS" unless you changed it during installation.

    Just look to see what SQL Server Management Studio connects to.

    If you would use Windows Authentication, you just use:
    PHP Code:
    mssql_connect("kurt-PC\SQLEXPRESS");
    Or at least, when I did that, it would work for Windows Auth. If that doesn't work, you should have installed mixed authentication so you would have a "sa" account.

    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Microsoft SQL Server 2005\Configuration Tools\SQL Server Configuration Manager.
    Then SQL will probably be disabled not the Browser one the one above it and it would probably be disabled. Then just right click it and hit start
