First off pay the server fees, then pay the staff if somethings left. After all donations are supposed to improve the server, not your free-time.
The idea behind hiring staff is to improve the server or secure it. There is no one man army to run a server efficiently. Never has been and never will be. For you see there is but many time zones each with players on at different times. Unless one has achieved omniscience, one needs staff to watch.
Staff is but not limited to, webmasters, GMs, Server Admins, Event Coordinators(if applicable), Security if needed but rarely is on occasion, forum mods, forum admins, etc. The list goes on.
Greed does not fuel the server. This is not eFlyff. The idea for donations is for server costs, staff payment which in turn is for server improvements. Since Flyff private servers do not carry the server loads of say WoW, the money is satisfactory. I've seen WoW servers break 50k before effortlessly. That's what caught Blizzard's eye once before and in turn will do the same for flyff's company. You could possibly live off of it, but that's an ethical choice many do not take into account.
But I digress....
All server owners should and must pay their staff. You think hard work comes cheap? Disgruntled employees do not do well in the private server scene. Many go on to do better things but most take the life of server hacking to replace the 10 bucks a month they were paid to rewrite a private server.
Well most GM's would do their jobs for free but i think developers would take money
official GMs get paid. They get paid a moderate salary to do what they do. Why not pServer ones? There should be at least one main GM that controls the others. That however only works when everyone is on the same page in a server. Not the massive ego-drama you see frequently.
I dev (not this mmo) and I don't work for free. You'd be surprised at the money they throw at you to do some work for a server. All devs should be paid and should be doing beneficial work for said server otherwise they should be let go. Pure and simple.
I have a quick question about taxes, do you pay them too?
If you are breaking one law, why not break all of them.
Fuck taxes.
Enjoy being in debt for your entire life. No matter how deep into the internet you think you are, no matter how pro or secretive you are, you can't escape Paypal's tax reports. Not unless you live in like a third world country or use Western Union or some other shitty service.
Very true Adler.
You think the Feds or even Interpol or (insert government establishment here) is going to not ask where 30k+ money is coming from? Even the Grand Cayman Bank asks that question.
Taxes serve another purpose other than funding your country. They serve as a means to who is making a lot of many and how they are doing it. Its an easy way to smoke out drug lords, pimps, organized crime, etc.
I always pay taxes on Paypal for whatever purpose. Ever been audited? Try and hide that from them.
Most staffs likely just join a flyff server development for fun and to gain something like "fame" . If you're an owner and you didn't do anything , staffs deserves that 'money' more than you do. So if I was a pServer owner I definitely wouldn't pay anyone as I'm the only one working on it lol.
i agree , more likely just leeching or recruiting dumbshits that they can even develop themselves.. i mean seriously i found out some people with talent works for a people who advertise " i dont know anything about pserver development but i am recruiting people with talents this is what i need , bla bla bla bla.. and note you wont get paid but if the server goes well then you will get pay in mininum amount that will forget to do afterwards
Do you actually mean like filing taxes reports yourselves?
and if so, it will be under freelancer right?
Or your just saying pay the paypal taxes, that are already included when a person donate. Because paypal automaticly takes some percent off donations , and i believe those are for tax purposes.
and if this is the case, do you still need to file taxes?
