Probably both. For a first website this wouldn't be too terrible, but for a second one this is pathetic.

@OP You should really consider looking at other websites to get some ideas of what people consider decent looking. Some bevel is OK, but you put too much in and that made it look like shit. Tone down the fonts a little too, they're kind of obnoxious.

If you can't read them easily, then why bother having font at all. Plus most sites tend to stick to the basic fonts like...

I am sorry to say this, but, are you high? Are you blind? That has got to be the ugliest design ever and the color scheme sucks major nuts. That looks like something that was designed back in 1998!

Theres tons of actually really nice fonts which are much better than the standard fonts. Finding an awesome font also helps with making the template unique.

The problem there is simply that the fonts hes using is too large. You need to make it SIMPLE and clean!

A good tip is drawing the website on a piece of paper (No matter how much you suck at it) then afterwards create it in Dreamweaver. Then you have something to look at.

But it comes down to what most servers will have on hand, and calling fonts not already on a the system from a self uploaded directory gets to be slow on bigger websites.

(not talking about using them in images, as that's completely different)
