Wondering where servers like v88 and v95 went all of a sudden.
Wondering where servers like v88 and v95 went all of a sudden.
I would like to see some of that as well.
Well, there are two extremes, either nostalgic (what's to be considered nostalgic varies but main versions right now are v62 and v83) and up-to-date, trying to be on-par with current gms. There's little room for what could be considered middle ground for nostalgic and not. One major point that ruins the nostalgic feel to most is item potentials. Another reason that certain versions are less popular is that there are less public resources for them, localhosts, sources and packet structures. Those who have enough experience to develop these versions often choose to go with either a more nostalgic version or a higher version. I'm personally working on something inbetween the two extremes, but I'll probably exclude item potentials and aim for a semi-nostalgic server.
I would say that v95 is a very good version (because of the v95 idb) , although v95 is one of the version where i had the most trouble with (it kept crashing just before the login-screen loaded),i was to lazy to figure out why it happend so i stopped even trying. It could be that more ppl experienced this or that they find it a shit version, since it is just afther the big bang.
For version 88, well that is not a version i like, it is just before the big bang, has potentials, dual blade, evan, terrible class balance etc. If you develop this version, than better go straight to the bigbang patch, or go to a lower version witch doesn't have aran, even, duel blader (my opinion)
Cygnus pretty much already said this, but I think it's mainly because high versions and low versions are targeting different audiences. The "in-between" versions don't really appeal to many. Furthermore, there's just generally less resources readily-available for those versions, although that's not to say one dedicated team couldn't create a successful server with v95 or so. But if you're ok with big bang stuff, you might as well go with a Lithium base, and there's not much of a reason to downgrade to v95.
The whole era of nostalgic was introduced by who knows who when they opened an older version server. I find it revolting to call it nostalgic since v55, 62 isn't that so old. After that, people copied and what not and others did the same.
I really miss to play the versions 88 or 90
I really think the issue is lack of public resources that have been dedicated to those versions, at least comparatively to the lower and higher versions. Are their public localhosts for either 88 or 95? I haven't developed outside of v62 in a while so excuse if that question is stupid.
Haven't seen any localhost 88 or 95 but seen v90(or v90.3?), v97, v97.3, v110, v111 and 118.3

Also due to that being the "Dark Era" of development where everyone kept everything to themselves.
that's right, damn, someone should take the risk and try make a decent new private server v87 or v90 f4
To get you started you could check

Someone get me a v95 localhost lol. I wanna do that version anyways. Because of the idb. I'll probably make it from scratch in c++.
