Re: Perfect World 136 on Ubuntu 8.04 Server VMware Image by Beastie ^^
Good call Romulan. No net work status:<:
cant ping any thing... I've tried about all the settings I can find here if you got any ideas layem on me.
I've tried most all VM settings that i can find. and VMware Network Adapter VMnet1 and 8's Properties have VMware Bridge Protocol unchecked. I've tried that to but what you say makes since. The VMware needs to adapt to the host. so I assume the problem is in the VM settings.
possible that it is in the Ubunta OS's net work settings/if so how would i go about checking that.(this=the first time ive ever used this os:grr:)
Any suggestions feel free to lay it on me.

Re: Perfect World 136 on Ubuntu 8.04 Server VMware Image by Beastie ^^
Well...
The VM must bridged on your network interface (the one you are using to go on internet)
Then use the command
Code:
nano /etc/network/interfaces
. It will display you some data like this:
Code:
# This file describes the network interfaces available on your system
# and how to activate them. For more information, see interfaces(5).
# The loopback network interface
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
# The primary network interface
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.0.51
gateway 192.168.0.1
netmask 255.255.255.0
network 192.168.0.0
broadcast 192.168.0.255
Little note on networking:
Check your network configuration (ip for router, your ip and other ip on your network).
Then adapt the VM to this configurations.
address = the ip of the VM. THE IP DON'T BE ALREADY EXIST ON YOUR NETWORK!
gateway = the ip of your router
netmask = commonly 255.255.255.0
network = if your IP is 192.168.1.101 your network is 192.168.1.0
broadcast = same for the network ip but it should be 255
After editing all lines and saved the files,
Code:
/etc/init.d/networking restart
Then use the ip you have entered for the "address" in serverlist.txt (in client folder) to get connected on your server.

Re: Perfect World 136 on Ubuntu 8.04 Server VMware Image by Beastie ^^
romulan xD the server stuff really changed i opened my server a while back on my old pc but now i have this new pc 3 gb ram simple pc now really.
now on my new one im having loads of trouble even with beasties server base, couldnt find the problem on my own, wouldnt it be easier for people to just give you guys remote access to solve the problem?
i would xD m ip is forwarded and im pretty much set to run this server for a few players. really just for the fun of it.
ive been thinking maybe the reason why i cant connect to it is because the way i have VM ware set up any special things i should do to my vm ware if i want this server to run? or does it set itself up. i can screen some of my settings.

Re: Perfect World 136 on Ubuntu 8.04 Server VMware Image by Beastie ^^
ok maybe this my problem in the fixes description where it tells a fix like this:
* eth0 doesn't start
Edit the following file by typing this..
Code:
nano /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules
and change the line
Code:
SUBSYSTEM=="net", ACTION=="add", DRIVERS=="?*", ATTR{address}=="00:0c:29:68:9e:a3", ATTR{type}=="1", KERNEL=="eth*", NAME="eth0"
Code:
SUBSYSTEM=="net", ACTION=="add", DRIVERS=="?*", ATTR{type}=="1", KERNEL=="eth*", NAME="eth0"
and remove any line concerning eth1, once done, save and reboot server
could this b my connection problem I did the fix but im confused on the fix. maybe im doing it wrong.
i have changed this line according to the TUT
# PCI device 0x1022:0x2000 (pcnet32)
SUBSYSTEM=="net",ACTION=="add", DRIVERS=="?*" ATTR{type}=="1",KERNEL=="eth"$"eth*", NAME="eth0"
and deleted the next line and this part of that line as well in attempt to get net going # PCI device 0x1022:0x2000 (pcnet32)
maybe i should leave this part ?
Sorry this is first time using Ubuntu or any form of Linux.
I upgraded to VMware Workstation 7.0 cuz its got a net work config wiz. it should have connection it auto configs the ip's for me and its on bridged. im next to installing a windows xp on it to c if its got internet. im pritty sure it would.

Re: Perfect World 136 on Ubuntu 8.04 Server VMware Image by Beastie ^^
I never used the vm image... just the server files in it. I don't know really how beastie have configured his VM image of Ubuntu.
And, I don't use vmware xD i'm using sun virtual box.. so i can't test the VM image of beastie :/:

Re: Perfect World 136 on Ubuntu 8.04 Server VMware Image by Beastie ^^
Hey Romulan can u give me help with this guide you submitted.BTW i found out my problem was with the VM its lamo to config ip's
1. Download my tomcat folder: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=WU82VABO
2. Download HFS: http://www.rejetto.com/hfs/?f=dl
3. Open HFS and just drag and drop my tomcat folder in the HFS window.<----{OPEN AS VIRTUAL FOLDER OR REAL FOLDER?}
4. On your terminal as root and type:
Code:
cd /usr/local {<---THIS PART IS FINE AFTER IT I GET (PWServer usr local# _____)}
rm -r /usr/local/jakarta-tomcat-5.5.9/* <---{THIS PART I GET ERROR NO SUCH FILE EXISTS I TYP IT IN WITH THE SPACES AND I USED THE * KEY ABOVE THE 9 KEY ON # PAD AND TRIED THE KEY SHIFT +8 NO LUCK THOUGHT THEY MIGHT B DIFF IN CODE LANGUAGE.}
wget http://YOUR-WINDOWS-IP/jakarta-tomcat-5.5.9.tar.gz
tar -xf jakarta-tomcat-5.5.9.tar.gz
chmod -R 755 jakarta-tomcat-5.5.9
5. Time to launch iweb now
Code:
sh jakarta-tomcat-5.5.9/bin/startup.sh
6. Now... you can acces at http://YOUR-PWSERVER:8080/iweb
The login and password are stored in /usr/local/jakarta-tomcat-5.5.9/webapps/loginlistMGT.txt
Also since you mess with the server files a lot do you know if it is possible to make another start (example... ./start_minimal ./start_full ) make a ./Start_mid with all fb's and HH Twilight temple place?

ROFL :lol: sun virtual box runs vmware images NP I've run this image on it.

Re: Perfect World 136 on Ubuntu 8.04 Server VMware Image by Beastie ^^
Maybe there is no tomcat folder... but i'm surprised. Skip this step and go to "wget http://YOUR-WINDOWS-IP/jakarta-tomcat-5.5.9.tar.gz" and the rest...
Yes is it possible to make a full startup script... but you will need a lot of RAM and a very good CPU like Quad Core or above to run it.

Re: Perfect World 136 on Ubuntu 8.04 Server VMware Image by Beastie ^^
is there a command i could use to get the jakarta tomcat file off a cd? ive googled the hell out of it but all i get is install cd for ubuntu ..... GRR
cuz i cant get it to connect to hfs ive tried everything but if i could copy tomcat to cd and get would work..

Re: Perfect World 136 on Ubuntu 8.04 Server VMware Image by Beastie ^^
Use any webserver (apache2 is my favorite) than put the jakarta-tomcat-5.5.9.tar.gz on your webserver.
after that, you will need to "get" the archive from your webserver:
cd /usr/local (the folder where jakarta should go)
wget http://the-address-of-your-webserver...t-5.5.9.tar.gz
dir (it will show you the content of the folder where you are: /usr/local)
if there's no error and if you see the archive:
chmod -R 777 jakarta-tomcat-5.5.9.tar.gz
tar -xf jakarta-tomcat-5.5.9.tar.gz (for extract jakarta in the /usr/local)
chmod -R 777 /usr/local/jakarta-tomcat-5.5.9 (to set all permissions on the jakarta folder)
after this:
cd /usr/local/jakarta-tomcat-5.5.9/bin
./startup.sh
And if normally it will show you 4 lines with the java and the jakarta path.. wait 10seconds and you can go on http://your-virtual-server:8080/iweb
I don't remember the password... but you can edit it there:
/usr/local/jakarta-tomcat-5.5.9/webapps/loginlistMGT.txt

Re: Perfect World 136 on Ubuntu 8.04 Server VMware Image by Beastie ^^
@rom is it possible we use standalone apache and mysql from native ubuntu ( linux real not virtual ) ??
because right now i still use lampp emulator. maybe its not stable :(
-
Re: Perfect World 136 on Ubuntu 8.04 Server VMware Image by Beastie ^^
if you mean the real lampp solution, yes it's possible... when you install ubuntu 8.10 or above you choose some options during the installation for installing a pure LAMPP (apache2+mysql+php)
But i suggest you to use XAMPP1.7 for linux because it's very more easy to configure and use it.
-
Re: Perfect World 136 on Ubuntu 8.04 Server VMware Image by Beastie ^^
no... i mean, i dont want use lampp :(
i want use real mysql and php apache for linux...
is it possible ?
so i need to edit all link file, correct?
but i saw on beastie file there is a few file using chines language :-s
-
Re: Perfect World 136 on Ubuntu 8.04 Server VMware Image by Beastie ^^
-_____-" LAMPP = Linux Apache2 MySQL Php ............
And XAMPP is an easy version of the great webserver of the world......
O____O chinese language ??? Lol ! It's a chinese server xD it's normal......
-
Re: Perfect World 136 on Ubuntu 8.04 Server VMware Image by Beastie ^^
so lampp is enough stable?
ok then master ^^
yeah :(
my laptop cant read that language :-S
xD
-
Re: Perfect World 136 on Ubuntu 8.04 Server VMware Image by Beastie ^^
i'm not a master... just a magician :ott1:
It's normal if your laptops can't read the chinese symbols. You just need to have your windows CD and install the asia languages pack. But some programs on your computer may not work after this if they can't "work" with the chinese charsets... But you will be able to read chinese file and translate with google!
-
Re: Perfect World 136 on Ubuntu 8.04 Server VMware Image by Beastie ^^
hemm... i dont have enough time to reinstall my windows :(
there are so many data on C: drive.
do you have the other suggest rom? like langauge emulator ?
-
Re: Perfect World 136 on Ubuntu 8.04 Server VMware Image by Beastie ^^
I didn't say to do a full installation... just go to Control Panel > Regional Languages (and so on...) and do the installation of asia languages on your existing OS.
