since we got attacked by a botnet we tightened the security a bit
you have to register your nickname
to do this enter
/nickserv register password email
(change password and email to your password and email)
then everytime you login to irc do a
/nickserv identify password
that also makes sure noone steals your nickname and gives you access to services as chanserv,botserv etc..
