I believe it is a)not free, b)not open source c)not exactly discontinued.
I think it's Sun ONE Active Server Pages which is now a feature of the Sun ONE (Sun Open Net Environment) which was available up to Version 6 SP4, for sure, and then seems to have become Sun ONE Studio, for which there is clearly a version 8. Beyond that, and the Oracle take-over I'm not sure what it may be called.
It is cross-platform because it runs only on the Sun JRE/JVM, and contains ActiveDirectory, and other Network directories, Email, Collaboration, Web and FTP services with server side scripting and built in web control panels, and in the studio versions it even seems to contain a C++ compiler... in Java... how odd. :/:
Despite being Java only, different installation packages where released for each supported platform. Originally (version 4) there was Windows, Unix and Solaris. But later there seem to be installers for AIX and other Unix variants too.
I don't think you can "download" this for free, and I certainly don't think you can share it with us for free. :wink:
--- EDIT ---
BTW... That strange code:-You know we both missed the obvious equivalent:-Code:strSplit = Chr(&h0D)
strSplit2 = Chr(&h7C)
:lol:Code:strSplit = Chr(13)
strSplit2 = "|"
--- EDIT2---
Looks like it became Sun Java System Web Server which was, at some point BSD license with Open Source core technologies, as well as free software. (though I'm sure Richard Stallman and the GNU/FSF wouldn't consider it "free" at all) This could be as "free" and "open source" as Mac OS X, which is also BSD licensed with an Open Source policy on most of it's core technologies.
I note that while the commercial Sun Java System Web Server clearly states it has ASP ability, the Open Source "Open Web Server" only mentions "SSL, CGI, FastCGI and its own NSAPI interface." Though the original article I linked in this edit states that Sun Java System Web Server is "free", it doesn't say how free. (free for who, and for what purpose)
I find a note on Oracle website that says:-and also indicates that that product is part of "Oracle Web Tier". That product is available to download for "free" from Oracle under a very strict license.Quote:
Oracle iPlanet Web Server securely and reliably deploys web applications built with leading-edge technologies, such as JavaServer Pages, Java servlets, Active Server Pages (ASP), ColdFusion, Personal Home Page construction kit (PHP), and Common Gateway Interface (CGI). A PHP add-on is available for Web Server 7.0
