Why on earth would you want to hide your servers address??? First of all, that escapes my 'simple logic', because wouldn't you want people to visit your site / or your server, and how could they do so if they didn't know it's "address" oO?

I think he means within the client directory, maybe he is directing it to an IP that he wants to be secure and remain unknown, as the actual PW have problems with people pinging them in giant amounts and ripping down the server.

Too bad you physically would NOT be able to ever do that. Anyone with a computer and 1/2 a brain could figure out his IP or any IP of any 'server'. Here's my concept and proof:

^(Like I said, anyone with a PC and 1/2 a brain can 'find' ANY servers IP by using something like resource monitor)^

Just take a look at my screenie, and you should easily see (in TCP connections) that at the moment I 'snapped' it I was connected to PWE's servers @:

    74.217.218.11 : 80
    &
    74.201.183.20 : 29000

So, you see, as much of a nice thought as it may have been, it is physically NOT possible (as I have demonstrated). Because no matter where you hid or tucked that file or any other file that 'discloses' your servers 'address', if you want CLIENTS to connect to your SERVER, the CLIENTS still have to have the SERVERS address. Even if you didn't have any 'file' that openly disclosed it, it would still have to be "hard coded" into the client so that it could still connect. Even THEN (insert anyone with a PC and half a brain) ANYONE could STILL discover what IP's and ports you use since all they have to do is look at what their own PC is connected to. So the only way to be "safe" would be to not run a server...

At this time, I would like to reflect on a previous statement in regard to computer security "If you want any machine to be truly 100% secure, don't EVER remove it from the box"!

    Add:

So some people may think "well, as long as it's hidden from most (people)"... No, no, no, just no!

Why you ask? Because all it takes, would be ONE person to discover then publicly share the information (your IP) then you'd REALLY look like an idiot (for "TRYING" to hide it)
