    CPW pck Size Increase

    I knew that CPW would increase the sizes of pck files but I didn't realise it would do so without even updating the pcks themselves. Unfortunately one of my players models.pck has increased in size to the point the client can't read it.

    This also means if I do another update it's most likely going to push everyone elses pck over the limit as well. Is there any way that I can get the pck file reduced using the patcher or am I going to have to rebuild my pcks?

    I've already moved all my mounts into gfx.pck in order to save space but clearly this hasn't helped me much. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    I've only been open 6 days though. Thanks though, I will do this in future, luckily I planned ahead and have most of the content I need for future updates in the pcks so only real changes will be in element.data.

    Managed to solve my players problem though, a reinstall seemed to do the trick.

    I know (as I have already mentioned somewhere), even if you do not add something to a PCK they will still increase in size (during patching). This is because running a 'patch' from 'CPW' basically "tacks on" an additional 'footer' to every PCK regardless of whether anything has been altered or added. So, that being said, even if no content is really changed or added all PCKs WILL increase in size, however, the change should be really nominal (but ofc will still add up over time!)...

    Also, I discovered there IS a limit on how big a single PCK can be... and that limitation is 2 GB MAX!

    I also had this problem with cpw, and as such have reverted back to the spatcher. I have not had the chance to test if manual cups do the same thing or not, am really hoping not. Best suggestion I can give is to go through models and get rid of anything not needed. The only way to do this with the cpw is to not remove the files but rather to replace them with files of the same name with a 0 byte size. For example open the Tideborn skin dds files with Notepad++ and delete all the info in it and resave. Then make a patch with all of the zeroed files. This can quickly become a huge pain in the ass and take an enormous amount of time. If you by chance are using 343's release(no offense towards 343 in any way) there are literally tons of duplicate and unneeded files in models, as well as configs. Just as an example find the ecm for the drunken panda mount and search for it in configs and models, you will see what I am talking about. Again, absolutely no disrespect for your work 343, I will continue to praise it to be the best, easiest, and most updated server/client package I know of.

    Actually, I noticed your post, and was what most likely what led me to actually test it to confirm it

    Either way, yes, there IS a 2GB limitation on PCKs

    Well sooner or later PWI will need to upgrade their elementclient... Because PWI models.pck is near 2GB... (1.7gb atm)

    Exactly. Unless they've already done so =\ (but I doubt it).

    So to anyone that still plays 'official', look forward to this being a huge problem - when even THEY don't realize what's going wrong once their models PCK is above 2GB :rofl:

    I don't suppose anyone knows of a program that can mass delete data from files instead of me going through each one pressing ctrl +a and del O.o doing that to 15K files is a bit much and my fingers are hurting after the first 1K
