basically they get half locked out by the servers anti-flood system. They are not at the full retreat state but still get rolled back when they loggout. This means they can trade items to other users and relogg, thus "duping" them.
There's no real fix that will eliminate duping entirely.
But some actions can totally discourage players from doing it.
- disallowing dropping items from inventory
- making bought items to take full or half stack in inventory
- active GMs
^rbb138 has wrote script that finds succeeded dupings (I haven't tried it as i don't run live server yet). It do't auto-ban players, but if u got some programing skills, it shouldn't be problem to tweak it abit.
If u don't - here's log viewer (credits to Kenpachi ™). If rbb's script finds succeeded dupings, u can check player's tradings by it.

well i tried several times and several different methods and i cannot get this program to work either
i havnt yet released by full dupe-log script, but its comming.

deffinitly. But its really tricky being able to spot the dupers and finding ways to prevent it. im still looking into ways but i cant even find a decent way to prevent it without modifying at least a 3 second drop/buy/inventory/coin route where even if they try in that 3 seconds cant do anything. that seems to work. havent tried on the trade tho. even then you cant really trade fast enough to cause a dupe. not on my end anyway.
remove all item mall's from item mall boutique, use NPC to sell item mall, i don't know this can hold but i just trying it at my server.

i don't think so, people can only flood buying from item mall with rs-client or BotPK. they set auto clicker with 50ms and buy item mall fast, and after 7 - 11 minutes, they will get in to retreat mode, after they get in retreat mode, they will sale or drop item to dupe, then force log off, and log in again. then droped item still at they inventory, and the lastest on the ground that they droped, they pick again and..... they have double item.
as long that player not get in to retreat mode, they can't dupe.
that was i know, maybe some one have other way to dupe, hope they can share it here, and we can find a way to hold duper's.
I wonder if duping is possible on PWI and what kind of protection they have against it...

i have heard of this method working, but a lot of people find it quite annoying. as they have to go to a location to get something. but its not that big of a deal.
i have had something dupe in pwi. it was the step 2 quest and i needed a weapon and baught it in auction and used it at step 2 quest then when update happened i got all the mail back again with double everything

I'm a little confused, when you spam the cash shop with requests, you get put into retreat mode correct? When you are in retreat mode, any changes made to your character will be rolled back correct? But if you trade items when in retreat mode, you get the item back and the person you traded to keeps it, thus duping it correct?
What exactly happens when you go into retreat? Do you get a message? Is the message "Server error, please log off and try again"?
In PWI, when you get the server error, you cannot drop anything, I haven't tried trading...
id request shutting up about this subject, robb from deva has created perfectly good scripts/methods to at least close in on the situation, doing areas such as:
- Removing Item Mall
- Disabling drops
- Rare items only being capable of stacking to 1
- Higher bandwidth servers
will prevent this, those who get past all tht then get on the retreat logs as to which u create auto-ban scripts. Job done.
im assuming your not getting the point of this thread... and two, anyone that asks about how to do a dupe or how it even works. GOOOD LUCK even getting an answer to that, as most people that do know will not discuss it on here. as its super annoying. i actually wouldnt be surprised if someone was to get an infracion for asking even how a dupe works or how to do it in detail. if you dont know. then dont ask. stick to the deving of it. plus this has been discussed probably what. 500 times....
well i know 2 ways but like you said supra not gonna talk about it here because i will mean death to all pw server that dint take the security measure Bash mentioned there.
ive been hearing rumors about pwi going to basicly a Private style server and shutting down there botique shop cost system? this cant be true. if anything they'd be shutting down permanently, i have noticed its not as active as it was about 6 months ago since the attack they had on them, and that they have some new game out. anyone else hear about this?!
and ya it would be nice to have a stable fix for it.
i dont see why you cant just add a 2 - 3 second delay on all purchases or drops etc. 3 seconds is nothing, could probably get away with 1 second.
just enough so the system can keep up and cancel the dupes. and even then i wouldnt have a clue how or exactly would be needed to do that and how well that would work

oh pwi memebers received an email message from pwi about why there server was acting messed up and stability issues etc that someone tried doing something to the server and since then the population of players online had recuced to less then half or something like that.
i remember when the attack happened i only saw about maybe 50 people on (sanctuary) climbed back up but still way less then there was
