Extracting hrace's vbox server onto a dedicated ubuntu machine?

Hey guys,

I have successfully been able to set up hrace's vbox server and play it with no problems.

I have another PC with a fresh install of ubuntu and i would like to run the server off it without using virtualbox....

So is there anyway that I can extract hrace's server to Ubunut?

there is, you could you use Ubuntu Karmic Server like in hrace009.
1.run the virtual box in first pc.
2.install ubuntu karmic server in second pc.
3.then install mc in ubuntu karmic server(second pc), we need it to remote and copy through SSH.
4.create user for remote SSH, example: tuxgamer
# useradd tuxgamer
5.Set password
#passwd tuxgamer
You must make this user in VirtualBox hrace009 server and ubuntu server karmic.

6.from ubuntu karmic server (second pc) , run mc as user , example : tuxgamer
then pres F9, go to Left menu, choose Shell Link
enter IP Adress of your VirtualBox hrace009 server

7.then copy folder /etc /PWServer /root and /usr to ubuntu karmic server(second pc), copy it to home folder, examble :
/home/tuxgamer/

8.after that, login as root or superuser in ubuntu karmic server, than copy b]/etc /PWServer /root and /usr[/b] to root folder (/).
# cp -rf /home/tuxgamer/PWServer /
# cp -rf /home/tuxgamer/etc /
# cp -rf /home/tuxgamer/usr /

then you just setup the server using your ip adress in ubuntu karmic server.
don't forget to install apache, mysql in ubuntu karmic server

btw, if you cannot remote another pc, you can install ubuntu karmic with GUI (using Gnome or KDE Desktop)
then install VirtualBox in there, run hrace009 server in there.
then do step 3 to the end.

yeah, you must familiar with Linux, spesialy in CLI.
the point is, Install Ubuntu Karmic ( 10.04 ) with Apache and Mysql then copy folder /etc /PWServer /root and /usr from VirtualBox to your Ubuntu Linux.

after that, your Ubuntu Linux became like hrace009, you must login as root with password hrace009
and login mysql with user root and hrace009.

why ubuntu karmic, it's because hrace009 use ubuntu karmic, so to avoid more problem, you must use the same version of ubuntu.

ok i think i have successfully installed apache with sudo apt-get install apache2.

what about mysql tho

hmm, after see this DistroWatch.com: Ubuntu
yes you're right.
i will check it again, because i'am not too sure, ijust know it 10.04, i will check it again. (i'am at office right now)


because you cannot ssh to another linux with root by default.
and don't try allowing root ssh remote, it's not safe.
So first , you need copy those folder to your home folder, then from your home folder copy to root folder.

because, you only need those folder (/etc /PWServer /root and /usr ).
and to avoid distroying you ubuntu server.


i'am not ubuntu expert, but about mysql, try install with this command:
apt-get install mysql-server
i google that, and found this Install MySQL Server 5 on Ubuntu - How-To Geek



fyi, i'am mandriva linux user.
i use VirtualBox to using ubuntu under my mandriva linux.
and run PW server cient with wine.

Update:
Sory, I just remember, don't copy file /etc/fstab and /etc/mtab from hrace009.
because it will make you cannot booting the linux system.
and file modules in /etc folder, it contains driver info for your system.

Just got home, it's Ubuntu karmic 9.10. that's ubuntu version using by hrace009.

just to remind you, don't copy file /etc/fstab, etc/mtab and /etc/modules from hrace009, Use the original from your server.

Your welcome, but i don't have ronny's file, so i cannot help you there.
i don't know the file structure, and etc.

what about try using 343 release.
i use that now in my VirtualBox with Ubuntu server 9.10 karmic.

no matter the version, you can use Desktop Version or Server Version.
but you must using 9.10 Karmic, to avoid the problem.
because in newer version of ubuntu, it will use the new program/software like mysql, apache, java etc.
and sometimes it will make the program/software in hrace009 not run.
