Lets take a look... I got a real work and spent my money from salary for that ^_^
And at all. I dont think you pay 50k $ for hosting and other stuuf per month... cos somewhere iv seen such a numbers..
Whilst I don't think PW Development should be a main source of income, I do think that devs should, to an extent, charge some money for items to cover server costs etc. But only with the exception that the items should not be gamebreaking gear or unable to be aquired through normal gameplay. Only cosmetic items or items to speed up the players journey should be possible through "donating", not make items that make them a god.
I 100% agree, in fact, I'd much rather donate my money to a private server that actually fixes bugs, tries to balance classes, improves drop rate, makes materials easier to gather, etc etc. And has a good gold rate.
That said, I'd rather the pound to zen rate not be like the offical servers, PWFrance's is the same as PWE's. I think this'll likely put people off going to their server tbh.
I downloaded the game, logged in and made a Seeker, this was in the early hours of the morning so no idea how active this server is. I was the only one around and there was nothing going on in World Chat. And I really, really hate the Genesis interface, just looks/feels so clunky -.-

However, PWi was not always like this. At first their cash shop WAS more 'legit'... However even PWi has gone astray like a fucking legit private server, like how now if you're willing to spend the $1500~$2000 you can 'purchase' rank9 -- well, it's fucking bullshit... Anywhoot this is why I am against 'donations' AT ALL -- because it also usually starts out all nice and innocent, and winds up CORRUPT AS FUCK in the end...
Like I said, this is our HOBBY (if you think you're going to 'make a living' off this, then maybe you should get your ass sued off)... We should incur all costs associated with it... Hosting, whatever it comes down to...
If not, and if you think I'm way off -- then do me a favor and send me $20 USD so I can go see a movie tonight

I don't mind donations if its something you can get in game via hard work vs donating (lazy way)
but when its something you cant normally get thats utter bull.

PW is a game almost completely designed to make money (free to play, pay to win) and its users are more than used to having to go by this. Even whilst most servers (or atleast the decent ones) make the item mall free or part of the ingame farming system simple donations usually provide more than enough income for the server. However, this doesn't mean it should be used as free income for admins who put nothing back into the server. The motto iv always held for private servers is:
Offical publishers rent the game copyright for money and so make money off of it.
Private servers download the game for free and take in enough to pay hosting.
If you are overflowing with donations its understandable to refund any developer who has put a lot of hard work IRL into an update for the server but its hardly decent to route excess straight into your bank and use it as a means of income whilst doing very little. Theres loads of great things spare money could be invested in such as startup hosting for a new pserver of another game or improving your hosting.
One interesting idea i had recently was to use it to host a PW Dev competition for all ages in the community with small cash prizes for the most awesome completely custom content (mainly GFX creations, but could be anything from map editing to model creation) as thats by far the most creative side of pw dev and it attracts more people to get interested in developing and not just to start a server for all the wrong reasons.
People that leach off PWs effect of brainwashing users into believing they have to pay to be successful in the game annoy me =/.
Or you can keep Cubi affordable to players to get in game.
Personally I agree with the idea of making most of the cash shop things that can be obtained for free, letting the lazy people pay but everyone can get it.
I would also add some things into the Cubi shop that are a little bit better, slightly faster mounts etc, as a small incentive, but also give out those sort of items as prizes so they're still obtainable.
I think a donation should be just that. Voluntary, with only a small thank-you to the player by way of cubi or items. Exordium's custom fash is an awesome idea of something you can pay for that won't break the game.
I wasn't referring to PW France and the people that run it. I was referring to someone else who runs a server that they rarely check in on. They sit on a considerable amount of money from donations (a number that continues to rise) and they don't really take care of their servers. They steal content from others and implement it just so they can claim they're "up to date" and loaded with "lots of custom content". If you're going to accept donations, at least use the donations for their intended purpose.
