Yea you said the same IP. Which you cannot do. They have to be on the same network with different IP's.
ie: having your server IP 10.0.0.51 / 255.255.255.0 and your client machine 192.168.1.2 / 255.255.255.0 will NOT work
having your server 192.168.1.51 / 255.255.255.0 and your client machine 192.168.1.51 / 255.255.255.0 will NOT work
having your server 192.168.1.51 / 255.255.255.0 and you client machine 192.168.1.10 / 255.255.255.0 should work
All of that was covered in the basic networking tutorial though =\
Re: [Help] Trying to make pw server

Re: [Help] Trying to make pw server
make sure you have the VM's network adapter set to bridged...
Re: [Help] Trying to make pw server
yep its on, it won't connect to my network. i tried reinstalling ubuntu again and did the manual ip address, and when it was done, it didn't get the time automatically, so does this mean i'm screwed. i have hamachi is there a way i could use it in pw.

Well, this alone is enough proof to me that you simply do not know what you're doing in the field of networking...
If I get any time I will try to wipe your ass... ... I mean... ...help you... ... later...
(That's not a personal 'shot' -- I am merely referencing an earlier statement I made -- how we do help people here, but don't wipe each others asses)
But right now RL calls... I will contact you when/if I can assist.
Re: [Help] Trying to make pw server
never mind i figured it out, its not that i was doing anything wrong or i didn't know networking, it that when i was doing maplestory i had hamachi installed, so in the bridged adapter thing i had to change it to my internet connection, and now it works, thnx man.
I really appreciate it, i just had a stupid moment for about 2 days, sorry for all the trouble
anyway how would i start the game, whenever i go to my client folder and start element client it says, load from launcher am i supposed to hex edit something

Excellent, I'm glad to hear you figured it out :) I'm not too familiar with hamachi -- as in I've never used it -- other than the fact that it's a (low-end/easy to use) VPN software. It usually is the stupid little things that we forget or overlook that wind up totally botching something up. Does hamachi create its own 'connection interface'? - So I take it you had the VM set to 'hamachi' rather than your actual 'internet connection'? Either way, I'm a tad curious of those details in case someone else comes along with the same type of problem in the future ;)
You have two ways to start the client:
1) start from patcher (if you're using my release the very nice sPATCH is included and all set up)
2) start from a shortcut that points directly to the game client (elementclient.exe) with the added command switch "game:cpw"
Code:
elementclient.exe game:cpw
Those are the two different ways you can launch the client ;)

Re: [Help] Trying to make pw server
I think everyone just needs 3 or 4 high grade computers in their house. And a personal server....

Well, not everyone can afford that... If all you do is want to run a few maps at once (not all of them) and have a few people playing a low end junker could do it just fine. It's when you want a public server is when it gets resource intensive...
Anyone that is a developer of any kind yes you very much should have several computers, low, mid and high end all to make sure everything works well. A personal server is just a bonus and I like exporting those duties on a "as needed" basis to AWS
