1 - Extract the client and you will be left with and ISO. You can then either
    a) burn the ISO to disc then copy the files off
    b) mount the ISO on a virtual drive like daemon tool, magicdisc etc then copy the files off
    c) I believe 7zip can actually extract the files from the ISO

Once you have the files it should be the client all ready to go. All you have to do is change the IP in "serverlist.txt" if you change the IP of the server.

2 - See above for the client. For the server if you use Virtualbox you need to start your vitual machine then choose
    [Devices]>[CD/DVD Devices]>[Choose a Virtual CD/DVD File..]
Find the ISO then load it.
    Then run
    Code:
    mount /dev/cdrom /cdrom
     cd /cdrom
     cp -R * /
3 - See above. Basically mounting is making the ISO readable. Essentially its the contents of the ISO (disc image) either on a virtual CD/DVD drive (Windows) or in a folder (linux)

4 - See above and the rest of the guide. Once you have mounted the disc in Ubunutu the "cp -R * /" command will copy all the files to your Ubuntu installation. You should then be able to run the other commands and finish setting up your server

Thanx very much for this man!!!i really appreciate it, it help me out alot, and also how do i start mozilla firefox in ubuntu. or get the game to start. Does this also work for Jade dynasty because i want to run both of these, not at the same time though.

Also, one more question about the client, where do i put it, do i put it in my c: drive or something, or does it go into ubuntu

Re: [Help] Trying to make pw server

Why do you need to start a web browser on your server? You access pwAdmin and all the web tools from another machine. To start the server you start your virtual machine then you open up a web browser and use pwAdmin to start it.

Jade Dynasty files are very similar so you could set it up in a similar fashion, however, 343 did most of the setup work for so it may be much more difficult for you. I wouldn't run both on the same installation of Ubuntu. If using virtual machines create a new one. If using a dedicated then I would partition it to dual boot.

The client was written for the Windows platform only. It is possible to run it on linux however. You will want to run in on your Windows machine though and you can put it in any directory you like it doesn't matter.

well i have to run the server and start the game on the same computer, since i only have one, and if the client is in my windows directory, how do it connect to my server in ubuntu, i'm trying to learn the connection, and after i start the server from pwadmin, does it open automatically.

Re: [Help] Trying to make pw server

Even though physically you only have one machine other computers and your router sees your Ubuntu as a separate machine. Both your Windows and Ubuntu have different IPs. Basically the client sends the data to your router then to the server and vice versa.

    [Others over the Internet]
    |
    [Client]<=>[Router]<=>[Server]

The Client IP is set in "./elements/userdata/server/serverlist.text"

Once you hit the start button on pwAdmin it will start all the required processes on your Ubuntu. So after that you basically need to make and account, start the client, choose your server and login to the game.

    Hope this makes things clearer.

Re: [Help] Trying to make pw server

i've done everything right, i did the ./start.sh and everything said all done but when i went to the browser and start pwadmin, it didn't work.

i've edited all the ip's, and the serverlist, to my virtual machine ip.

Also is the virtual machine ip the one with the 10.0.x.x cuz that's what used. also in the video config.php didn't have the wan ip part, so i didn't know what to put there, whether it was 127.0.0.1 or virtual machine ip

Re: [Help] Trying to make pw server

If pwAdmin didn't work then you most likely have made a mistake when configuring your network.

Is your server IP on the same network range as your Windows machine and router. ie if your router is 192.168.0.1 then your server IP must be 192.168.0.X If you use the 10.0.X.X then your router must be 10.0.X.X

The virtual machine IP most likely wont be 10.0.X.X by default. Eth0 is probably configured to auto so will receive an IP from your router. All the server files however are 10.0.X.X so need to be changed.

Config.php should be the IP of your server. If it was localhost (127.0.0.1) then you would only be able to access your web server from your Ubuntu machine.

Read the following and you should be able setup you network correctly.

Re: [Help] Trying to make pw server

i've tried everything it still doesn't work for me.

alright, both my computer's ip address and my virtual machine's address are the same.

Is it because i'm running 32bit linux, do i need 64bit.

also everytime i try the 64bit it won't let me, it says try a different kernel, and i'm pretty sure my computer is 64bit.

on the vbox i tried finding ubuntu 64bit, couldn't find it

i've already read the networking guide about 3 times now, and still nothing.

maybe i should give up, i thank you guys for helping me out, but its not working for me.

There's your problem... NO two machines can have the same IP. Even though your VM is running on the same physical machine it must be treated as it's own machine -- hence it's a Virtual Machine -- It's VIRTUALLY it's own machine...

That you cannot do, those are entirely different networks.

Yea you said the same IP. Which you cannot do. They have to be on the same network with different IP's.

ie: having your server IP 10.0.0.51 / 255.255.255.0 and your client machine 192.168.1.2 / 255.255.255.0 will NOT work

having your server 192.168.1.51 / 255.255.255.0 and your client machine 192.168.1.51 / 255.255.255.0 will NOT work

having your server 192.168.1.51 / 255.255.255.0 and you client machine 192.168.1.10 / 255.255.255.0 should work

All of that was covered in the basic networking tutorial though =\

yep its on, it won't connect to my network. i tried reinstalling ubuntu again and did the manual ip address, and when it was done, it didn't get the time automatically, so does this mean i'm screwed. i have hamachi is there a way i could use it in pw.

Well, this alone is enough proof to me that you simply do not know what you're doing in the field of networking...

If I get any time I will try to wipe your ass... ... I mean... ...help you... ... later...
(That's not a personal 'shot' -- I am merely referencing an earlier statement I made -- how we do help people here, but don't wipe each others asses)

But right now RL calls... I will contact you when/if I can assist.

never mind i figured it out, its not that i was doing anything wrong or i didn't know networking, it that when i was doing maplestory i had hamachi installed, so in the bridged adapter thing i had to change it to my internet connection, and now it works, thnx man.

I really appreciate it, i just had a stupid moment for about 2 days, sorry for all the trouble

anyway how would i start the game, whenever i go to my client folder and start element client it says, load from launcher am i supposed to hex edit something

Excellent, I'm glad to hear you figured it out :) I'm not too familiar with hamachi -- as in I've never used it -- other than the fact that it's a (low-end/easy to use) VPN software. It usually is the stupid little things that we forget or overlook that wind up totally botching something up. Does hamachi create its own 'connection interface'? - So I take it you had the VM set to 'hamachi' rather than your actual 'internet connection'? Either way, I'm a tad curious of those details in case someone else comes along with the same type of problem in the future ;)

You have two ways to start the client:
    1) start from patcher (if you're using my release the very nice sPATCH is included and all set up)

    2) start from a shortcut that points directly to the game client (elementclient.exe) with the added command switch "game:cpw"
    Code:
    elementclient.exe game:cpw
Those are the two different ways you can launch the client ;)

I think everyone just needs 3 or 4 high grade computers in their house. And a personal server....
