    Hrace009's server.

So as I mentioned I am using Hrace009's server, I am new to this stuff, and still learning the basic stuff. But hey we all at one point started like I am now starting.

    So my problem/question is:

How to setup Hrace009's server as a public server so that my friend could join.

Idk if it matters or not, but as I red in many tutorials and other help requests, I noticed that everyone has a router. So I assume that my problem is different since I don't use a router.

If anyone would be so kind to tell me, explain step by step how to setup vbox so that others can connect to my server.

    Re: Hrace009's server.

I did as it showed in the guide but now I have a problem that I can't log on PWAdmin now.

I will try to redo the whole process. But maybe you have a hint on where I should be careful, where everyone usually makes the mistake.

also if you have time, and you know how to do it you could help out trough skype: hetachi62 (faster than posting pictures, I think)

EDIT: Red the whole topic, it seems that I have to edit all those things that he needed ? Also It seems that VBOX doesn't have internet access.

Change the ips where the post says open the port 29000 for make public your server, use portforwarding or access your modem, install no-ip and change in your client the file serverlist.txt whit your no-ip name.

    1) What ip ? My ipv4 ? or the ip from VBOX ?
    2) In what post you see that it says to open port 29000 ?
It would be nice if you explained more than that...
I still don't understand everything, so I am trying all options that are given in forums.

EDIT: Noticed that I didn't have a bridge, so I created one:
    Spoiler:

But it still shows that it's not connected. Any suggestions ?

As now I think I am stuck at 2nd step:
    Spoiler:
    2. Step: Connection sharing

We enable Connection sharing on the dialup connection at the Windows network center.
Be sure to set it on the PPPoE or Dialup connection, not on your LAN.
Check all 3 options to be sure its always working.

I don't know where to do this on Windows7.

    Re: Hrace009's server.

Why the hell are you using hrace's release? His is outdated now, a while ago his was the big thing but now theres something bigger.

Use 343's release, its very detailed and even noobs can do it.

But, I guess you want help opening ports? You don't have a router, and are hosting it from home?

My idea is buy a friggin router. Seriously, get a router.

Once you have a router, open ports:

    29000
    80
8080 (if you decide to use 343's release)
    and MAYBE pwAdmin port.

    Next, in your machine type:

    Spoiler:
    ufw status

If it says firewall is inactive, type ufw enable

Now we have to open the ports to the MACHINE.

    ufw allow 29000
    ufw allow 80
ufw allow 8080 (IF using 343's package)
and MAYBE your pwAdmin port to just your ip. (ufw allow from [your.public.ip.goes.here] to any port [pwadmin port goes here]
    ufw disable
    ufw enable

and your all set. If that doesn't work, your screwed, ask supra because NO MACHINE has EVER defeated him with that LOL.

    Good luck with your server.

    TL;DR {

Open ports 29000 80 and maybe pwadmin port on your machine and firewall.
    Upgrade to 343's complete package.

    }

I will rest my hands now from typing.

    Re: Hrace009's server.

Yea, I did check 343's release but I kinda didn't know if it works on VBOX,and I was a bit confused on how to setup, since this tutorial was easyer, till the port problem... but since I know that it's really old, I will download 343's pack. (Although I don't get half of the tutorial, but I am sure I'll figure out once I download it all)

Btw I have a router but I don't use it, faster net if I use straight from modem. Will it be easier if I switched to router ?

Thanks for your post I will try to do as you said.

    Re: Hrace009's server.

Linux is linux whether its installed on physical machine, vwmare, virtualbox or that which must not be named. You can install 343's release on anything.

I would suggest to use a router as that is the easiest way and most of us haven't even set up a server using the non router method. At the same time don't give up on the non router method. Just keep trying things until it works. You can't mess too much up and if you do manage to mess up the server then just start from scratch again.

In that case yay one more day wasted from my life XD

But yea I am atm. installing 343's release, but I it was weird that it skipped the part where he on his video entered 4-5 different address's which I didn't have to enter.

Any suggestion or maybe a small tutorial how to configure after I install the server to a non router ?

    Re: Hrace009's server.

as far as that "4-5 different address's which I didn't have to enter."

that's because you do NOT want the server to use DHCP, you want to cancel DHCP and manually assign network info...

Though, if you're not using a router I guess DHCP would be a good idea (unless you're paying for a static IP from your ISP)

Not using a router in between your modem and the server / PC means that the ports would only have to be opened in any software firewalls that you have (instead of having to open them in any software firewalls AND in the router)...

    IE:
You do not use a router, so your only PC connects directly to the modem. Your ISP issues you an IP, say 108.81.200.69
Now provided you do not have any software firewalls blocking port 29000 people can add 108.81.200.69 to their serverlist.txt and connect to your server

If you DO have any 'software' firewalls though you will need to make sure to open ports 29000 and 80 and most likely 8080 (especially if you're using my release)...

Also I would NOT recommend NOT running SOME kind of firewall if you have NOTHING in between your modem and machine (ie a router)

    Re: Hrace009's server.

Thanks for the tip, I am installing it now for the 2nd time since on the first one I messed up and pressed enter on DNS server instead of just continue.

I will post here once I am done installing the server itself. Then if I have any problems after all these tips, I will return...

Thank you I will check it out in the morning.

First I will try the original 343's release.

    EDIT:
    Spoiler:

    I am having problem at:
    Spoiler:
    mount /dev/cdrom /cdrom
    cd /cdrom
    cp -R(R means the cdrom which I have the server-root CD-1.iso mounted ?) * /

I don't understand this fully. would be nice if someone could enlighten me.

EDIT: Re typed commands and worked, I think I didn't type 1 command line.
    Going to next step.

    EDIT:
Finished installing, was weird that ia32-libs installed differently than in video.

But anyway it seems that I have finished everyhting:

I would like to know some more info about IP configurations
    Spoiler:

If anyone is generous enough to fill out this info how it should look for me, I would be very thankful.
    Spoiler:

    Spoiler:

    Spoiler:
    Code:
    <%

// Set you LAN IP here
    String lanip = "10.0.0.51"

    %>

If not, maybe someone could try to explain it to me.

What would change if I used a router ? (If I added a router at this point, would I have to re-install everything ?)
