i was thinking once my server goes live, what can i do to protect myself from being sued, i figured as long as im not selling they're content, "no donation items" it wont be illegal, anything i can do to protect myself? or do i have everything under control.
as far as ive read, the worst they can do is close my server down, and a disclaimer to protect myself as well O.o

To be perfectly honest PWE/Wanmei don't give a damn about them because we are using an ancient version of the server and client
And if you want to be 100% secure ask them for a school licence( and yes you have to pay for that
well thanks for the info guys ^^, im going for a small server to start out and maybe upgrade when it gets more popular, anyways 4gb ram 2.5ghz, not all maps open. 100mb down/up and uh yeah thats good to start out xD its a us server so yeah, anyways thanks ill start working on my server and let everyone know how its going.

ok my linux server is up and everything but i cant find out how to transfer my files from my vbox to my server every time i try to use the winSCP to FTP the files it keeps giving me errors and it wont tell me the errors x.x, anyone got any idea on how to extract files from a server image? i looked it up 100 times on this forum and cant find anyone with the stuff. thx in advance.

I hope you know what you are doing and i guess you dont know because you get stuck at this point. vBox systems are diffrent then normal PC systems so forget about just doing a 100% mirror and run that.
You have to:
1. Copy the whole PWServer folder to your HD, then push it to the other server. There is no chance to direct send it ! ( sure there are ways but it runs thru your host system anyway )
2. setup Java
3. Setup MySQL
4. Setup libraries needed if its 64 bit system
5. Setup Tomcat or Jetty as Java-Webserver ( check ronnys pwadmin documentation for that )
6. Setup your serverfiles to the new machine
7. see that it dont work
8. start again by 1 and post whiny threads here

i know what im doing ^^ especially with my 12 hours of experience with ubuntu, if i can find just the server files no image id really love it xD ill keep looking ive looked at threads no luck ill find a way eventually.

I dont know. Im using beasties files and everything is fine. Just had to manually add ~50 NPC and ~200 Quest but we are translating the whole thing to german so we had to rewrite them anywayyeah i don't see it @_@ where is the guide on that post? why it was remove?

What do u mean by adding 50npc more and 200 quest? Is beasties realese were mess up or what?
well i was about to post that too, about the files not there but im ok with older files, my friend and i will update it ourselves, nothing google cant do am i right? xD
Nope. It just has a crappy npcgen where many NPC are missing and if you use HGN client elements and tasks its working but you are missing many quests.
I am using this config:
Beasties files, HNG client, merged the elements and tasks from ronnys release to it ( only the missing stuff ) and rewrote ~ 25% of the ID that didnt fit. So its a huge load of work but i have a fully custom thing atm ( and its 25% in german lol )
ermm, then from ur opinion if i use the PWD from ronny with official client that been dloaded from PWI official page does it will be good?
I mean from the sense of the gameplay and if i wanna put my customs items and mounts? Thats what i am using now actually been hosted on a LAN with friends with 48 pc on the network.
you will run into problems with that client i think. At first you need to change the serverversion on serverfiles, then you need to upgrade the npcgen and then it might work but the teleport points of some instances can be diffrent ( city of abominations teleport brings you in front of the fb99
Also you have to check for wrong IDs which causes the mapservice to crash ( beasties files are beasty

well i apprieciate the info, i dont mind how far the game is, and i do like having something to do ^^, ill def need an npc gen. and when i upgrade .data files like ghshop element bla bla i will need to increase the file version as well? no matter what comes out i know i have alot of work to do if i wanna make the server decent.

Its ok to make whiny posts if you show all logs and stuff and a detailed Error message
When you just edit elements.data or something you dont need to change version. You just need to do this once because beasties files are set for client 1.3.1
If you use another client as 1.3.1 just change it to that version and all is good to go because you wont change the clientversion itself when you just edit files in the client.
cool and wow u are always on xD, yeah thx for the extra info im going to provide any info if i do have problems, this is a practice server til i rent a server, was thinking why rent something i dont know how to use? heh, practice makes perfect so im just going to keep fooling around tomarrow im going to upload the files to the server and play around with it
