But can you shut off CPU cores and whole CPU's (so you can hot swap them) with a simple command?

echo 0 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpuX/online

where X is the CPU core ;o (if you turn off all of a CPUs core it stops powering it and can be removed from motherboard)
