    Textdata Editor

    Hi!
Im working on an editor for silkroad textdata files to edit them a lot easier it currently has the following functions:
    • Open/Save Files
    • Create new file
    • Add/Remove Column
    • Search/Replace
    • Windows context menu entry to load the files faster
    • Open/Save encrypted Skilldata with automatic de-/encrypting

It basicly makes your textdata files look like your database (see screenshots below for more informations) and thus makes it a lot easier to edit textdata files as they arent unordered anymore like when useing a normal texteditor.

    Planed features:
    • Name the columns like they are named in database
    • Filter for columns (means: show only the columns you want to see)
    • List of textdata files in the folder of the file you just opened for quick changeing
    • Tabbed editing

Im posting this thread to get some ideas/suggestions/criticism/feedback in general to improve it even more before releaseing. Hope i get some ^^

You should take a look at my suggestion , You need to be a program that brings it into the database, textdata

hmm, what's wrong with microsoft excell? You can even create macros in there which makes the job way more easer.

    Re: Textdata Editor

excel converts some values in textdata files to a different view instead of -1398,138652 it just shows 1,8E+3 or sth like that and when copying back to database or saveing as textdata file the server/client will crash while loading those values

regarding macros, what macros do you usually use in excel or any other texteditor you use? maybe i can implement those too (but without a macro recorder of course)

    Re: Textdata Editor

yes notepad++ can edit in columns too youre right, but the textdata lines are not always in the same order which is why i wrote this editor in the first place because that was very annoying
    example:

    lines.png

or this one its an even worse example

    lines2.png

the next advantage example would be the textdata_xxxxxx.txt editing for example .. ive seen many people haveing trouble to find the right spot for writing the name or description in those lines or when they copied a line they had and edited this line they accidently removed a tab too much and didnt notice and its not working anymore

my editor puts those tabs automatically, example:
lets assume we have those lines
    lines1.png
then we add a line and write 1 for service and the ID of that string
    lines2.png
then we directly go to the column where the other names are, write our name and save the file.
    lines3.png

the editor added all needed tabs automatically and the line will work, and youre faster than copying a line and edit it

Nice idea but what about column header? Btw, I think the menu buttons are a bit too large. Anyway, seems to be a cool project

    Re: Textdata Editor

yeah as i said the column headers will be named like the columns in the database im currently working on it, the headers will be named based on the filenames im currently thinking about how/where to store the names
i was thinking about some kind of multidimensional associative array but maybe there are better, faster ways
maybe you got a good idea tortmn?

    Re: Textdata Editor

What about modules for each file format. Like 1 for refObjCommon and so on. And then just check the filename. Users can share these modules. Thats how Id share it.

A module could look like this:
    {0} Service
    {1} Id
    {2} CodeName
    {3} ObjName
    {4} OrgObjCodeName

    {0} = Column Index \t "String" = Column Header

Load it from the \modules\ folder or kinda. Easy and effective.

Also cool would be query functions :)

    Re: Textdata Editor

yeah well you're working on sro servers far longer than i do, ofc you're used to notepad now xD

@torstmn i like the module idea .. that way i wont have to store it inside the program itself at all just load it together with the opened file .. great idea thanks

    //Edit:
Column nameing built in with the idea of torstmn thanks for that ^^

    Re: Textdata Editor

well i think thats a bit too much for textdata editing .. column filtering + search function should do the job tho

You just have to format the document, this way the numbers will be fine. But for me Open Office Calc is better than MS Excel, it formats the document by itself.
