What Bomb said will work but you could also use 3ds Max and load the object you want to make an image for then use the render option and save it as a .dds file.

Honestly making a icon with a render from 3dsmax aint bad option... but i think it would be better to do that in the studio with some kind of a blue-screen etc...

Make green lime wall in studio, get print, import in your Photoshop with .dds plugin by nVidia, remove green wall from your print, put good size in your image, save .dds in explicity alpha, i will Make tuto!
