I think his performance added to it. I mean he played a straight backed authoritarian, would have been weird if he was amazing singer and best dancer. It suited his character.
Anne Hathaway (Eponine) is amazingly beautiful, would you believe we almost lost her to a Nunnery?! Haha

Anne Hathaway played Fantine! Though she is also very beautiful. Eponine is the girl who gets upset because that student boy falls in love with Cosette instead of her (madness, in my opinion!)
I guess my main problem with Crowe's performance is that he didn't really convince me that he cared all that much about catching Valjean. He (in my opinion) didn't sing with much authority or passion, and then suddenly BAM! . I think if I wasn't already familiar with the story I'd be left wondering what the hell just happened!
Then again I'm probably just too used to listening to Philip Quast's performance, which is simply amazing:

Ahhhh Eponine. She was on some British Reality TV Show trying to find the next Theatre star. She didn't win but yeah you're right she is beautiful. Too many "ines" to keep track of!
I didn't like how Cosette and the little boy fell in love instantly, enough so that he wasn't that upset when Eponine died (Spoilers). Also I liked how Valjean is meant to be like 50-60 near the end of the film (Guesstimate) and as Hugh Jackman is playing him, he has the most ridiculously massive traps ever, was quite funny to see this 'old' man have a better physique than all the young guys put together.

Anne Hathway, Russel Crowe and Hugh Jackman all had the performance of their lives.. at least in my humbled opinion. I think their performances were peak, and the whole thing fit together. Sure, it's hard to stay awake simply from the lethargic mode being set into action throughout the ENTIRE movie, but still.. it was a great. I loved it.
