There is no such thing as "similar" to TTGL, yet.
Needless is pretty close, but not even coming close in terms of grandeur and manliness. Characters are messed up, story seems to be in-the-moment, but thats about it. A lot of lolicon, though.

everyone has his likes and dislikes...you cant get someone to like what he dislikes and vice versa, now stop the argueing and lets all enjoy our animes :)
TTGL manga started coming out after anime started, and then there are several manga spino-ffs as well, as well as a crack mini comic where Kamina and Simon are cops, Double K. Then there are the TTGL movies, watch them if u didn't since they are more action oriented with additional scenes as well.
Some shows in that style eh, GaoGaiGar, Gunbuster I and II, Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, though the alt story first FMA anime wasn't bad neither, Gurren Laggan Parallel works short stories, Hikaru no Go, FLCL, Detroit Metal City, Gungrave, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, Durarara, Mnemosyne, Kara no Kyokai, Black Lagoon, Casshern Sins, Tetsuwan Birdy Decode, Shikabane Hime, XamD, Eureka 7, Basquash - basketball with mechas, Toaru Majutsu no Index/Railgun, Shakugan no Shana, Initial D - mountain racing, loosely based on japanese drift king, FSN Unlimited Blade Works movie, and FSN series if you want, since they do depict 2 different routes from the visual novel, and UBW is the one where fighting is somewhat more intensive at a glance, if they ever do the 3rd one there will be quite a few awesome fights, then again they are working on animating Fate/Zero, which is the previous Grail war, and that one was quite full of action as well, Berserker Black Knight hijacking a fighter jet and duking it out, Monster, Hellsing OVA, Full Metal Panic, 12 Kingdoms - fantasy.
To stop before I start rifling through my collection for more, some were already mentioned before and so on. Of the lot I mentioned I only didn't finish Monster, gotta make some time for it when I'm free.
