I watched a few episodes of smallville, was never my cup of tea really, but if you watch the beginning of the Arrow series it tells you what happened to him, i believe that is why he has no emotion.

I saw episodes with green arrow in smallville, I will watch all 10 series on the internet, or give me the season arrow comes in then I can compare.
