It is just you because in no way is this just a "re-color":

It is clearly a different image, and yes, they look like each other because that is the whole purpose.

Second, yep, the character is an isometric version of Steve. :) Why does that matter?

So, when you program everything yourself (and I've seen people try, just look at the HTML5 projects at this forum) and don't use Habbo's trademarks, there is only 1 thing on this list left to fix; the graphics.

I know it doesn't look fantastic and some of you probably think it's ugly, but hey, I tried. :P

Now, do YOU think by programming everything yourself and using images like the one above, your retro would still be a "retro"? Or most important, illegal?

(I hope I post this thread at the right board ;3)
You might as well make a new game at that point which is honestly redundant because you're not going to get the community that you can get with a retro imho.

It's not redundant! The retro community is horrible and if you wanted to bring the bafoons that are on retros over to yours, you can just make your game better than theirs. HTML5 and Javascript client ftw

Well, let me know when you find a team of devs really willing to do something like this. Many attempts were made, all to my knowledge have failed.

Some friends of school and I (we're second year software enginering) are actually trying to do this as a school project. (Meaning an isometric game where people can "decorate" their own world.)

Best of luck. Look, I just don't see it as being a worthy project for anyone. We are a small community that actually likes Isometrics.

This has literally been in discussion sesne the beggining of retros. One person (that I have noticed) has done it, it was called Jabbo. It was glorious but like all projects of the such, it slowly died out

If I were to do it, and of course it's possible code wise, though graphics wise it would be a bit of work, more than most people in the scene can do, I would start small. First do simple rooms, don't copy the same ones Habbo has done. Try to keep an isometric style, but don't steal it either. Then make your first set of unique furniture, stuff like dividers, divier corners, gates, couches / sofas, chairs, and maybe a poster or two. Then figure out how the avatars will look and design two or three shirts per gender, as well as pants and hair, etc. Remember when Habbo first started it was really simple... Start out simple, they got complicated over the course of over 10 years.... I would say a mix of CokeStudios and Habbo style wouldn't be too bad, somewhere in between, just not a blatant copy.

Coca Cola gave up on it, and nobody ever did a fork. There's also Virtual Magic Kingdom which was another Sulake product that eventually Disney took over... The reverse engineered scene for VMK though got the big stick of the law from Disney... Don't reverse engineer billion dollar industries.

You can replace the coke studio dcrs with the habbo dcrs and it works pretty much the same

No. It wouldn't be the same feeling at all. Habbo gives me nostalgia feelings (both retros and the real deal), though I usually hangout on retros, due to the fact that I enjoy them more :].
