The Dutch Legends

Before all the hate: I know there are tons of foreign (for me) developers, but I just wanted to 'ask something'.

As I was bored, I was searching with archive.org to find the old UberCMS design (the one Roy used when UberEmu was in development), and I found it, but then I was wondering: why were almost all of the 'Habbo Retro Legends' Dutch? If you don't know what I mean:

- vista4life
- Nillus
- Meth0d

I know there are just 3 in that list. But those 3 have made a huge impact on what the section is nowadays. Nillus made ION/Deltar (which is UberEmu based on which is Bfly based on), Meth0d made UberEmu and vista4life was (one of) the first guy(s) with a flash hotel, and he worked on v36 with Hebbo.

But why are the 3 people who made the hugest impact on this section Dutch? I was always wondering it...

Habbo is dominated largely by the Dutch. They flock to us because we do (did) good projects.

There are just a lot of coders over here. The main job in our land is Coding, it's the almost best pay'd job. And the job that is growing in the netherlands, the other jobs are getting smaller but the ICT is getting larger.

No for real, all other job's are getting smaller in this country. And the ICT job's are getting bigger and bigger, that's why alot of people are doing the ICT thing's now.

He knows all about The Netherlands since it's PEjump2 and he's Dutch. Also coding and programming is something different. Programming is writing applications etc. while coding is encrypting (if I'm correct saying it)

There are alot programming job's here in the netherlands,

…one thing does irritate me: the persistent misuse of the word “programming” when the author means coding. Programming is creating the logic, coding is translating that logic into code.

While the other job's shrink in the netherlands, the ICT section is getting bigger and bigger, think about Service's for others, Programming, Coding, Website designing etc etc.

Programming is a valuable skill even if your job isn't IT related. To mention just one of it's applications, I'm hired by an electrial company to register the power factor corrections needed(active PVC) for a given area. Basicaly, I was told to write a bunch of files based on preset models of report which happens to differ on every situation . Then, I created a program which is basically a switch. I chose what is the model I'm using and fill in the core information only. The work that used to take me 6 hours a day now takes me 30 minutes and then I can just shit down and derp the rest of day on reddit

I have no idea actually. I'm Dutch, but I have never met somebody in my daily life who's also into retros, yet it seems like we're all over the place. :')

What courses did you take in school, and how did you learn to be so fast at programming?

I'm planning to take this path with my schooling and career, so any advice and knowledge is very much appreciated! :)



OT: The dutch found out about retros around the debut of Goldenshox emu created by @James himself of this forum! Goldenshox was based on the forgotten but legendary USA111 source which was the first released open source that was usable. Buggy as it was, Goldenshox cleared up as much bugs as possible and released a nifty and fun server which was unbelievable to use and have unlimited credits!

It was after Goldenshox that the development of Debbo emulator started, and this was the era of the flat file servers. Debbo was epic and fun, and unlike any server out there today. It was all about fun, nifty features and nothing regarding perfect code. It was the first server to focus more on stability and the in depth features, and had a really cool UI! Oh the simple but epic days.

I don't think the fact that they're all dutch has anything to do with it. It shouldn't be a surprise anyway. Honestly, I believe Habbo is more popular in Europe anyway, at least in the beginning it was.
