    What's the point?

    Hello all,

I was just thinking to myself, "Is there any point in Retro voting web sites and forcing people to vote for your Hotel?". I'm not having a go at any Voting website owners or anything I'm just wondering do they even generate more traffic, I know for a fact they annoy the Users of your Hotel since they annoy just about everyone. Recently I was just having a browse around on Google of retros to just piss about on and I was forced to vote on about 95% of them with the rarity of one not being there.

    Forced Voting
Forced Voting is when you visit the the website and you get redirected to a voting page before you get redirected back to the Hotels website you were trying to get on previously. It can also be on the client page.

    Questions I am asking
    1. Do they generate more traffic?
    2. Do people actually take the time to go on a voting website and look for Hotels to play?
    3. Are they just pointless in the first place?

Unless you're #1 on that list, it's pointless.

And the owner of the list decides who's going to be on number one.

It depends how many clicks etc they get, the lists i know there is no decision by the owner.

    to your questions:

Do they generate more traffic to the website? i personally think that the lists provide a lot of traffic to the sites, This ties into question number 2 because ive seen alot of people who take their time to look at the sites in order to play hotels

It's pointless for the retro owners. The only thing it does is to generic traffic to thehabbos' websites and generate ad income for RastaLulz. It might help when you get a little higher in the ranks but not for the smaller ones.

Voting sites don't really bother anyone, it's there for whoever wishes to use them to find a server to play on. However, servers that use the 'forced voting' does certainly annoy everyone. I understand they want to be #1 on voting sites but it's still annoying as f***

Some populair retro's here in the netherlands dont even use such voting sites and they maintane a stable 1.5+K users each day. Sometimes even more then 2K online.

    Forced voting is stupid.
Anyone who implements it is also stupid.

Yep glad I'm not the only one who was smart enough to realize this. It just gives users a portal to other retros with more people, and they really don't even know what they're voting for half the time lol. It's better like everyone is saying to put your site on there when you'll make top 10, but even then it's a sacrifice for the quality of your community and also having the only traffic being regular retro players who aren't always the most pleasant.

    Re: What's the point?

The forced voting has its pros and cons. If your hotel gets on the first page of the retro list it can be beneficial. At the same time users do find it irritating having to vote each day. It all depends on if you are on that first page and on the top of the list. Some people actually go on retrolist to find new retros but more than half the time retrolist is just used from users of an existing hotel forced to vote. The retro community should also be focused on recruiting users that are not in the retro world yet so we aren't just trading users around. But that is much easier said than done and who knows if that day will ever come.
