Well Microsoft will lose 100% of my respect if they screw Minecraft up. It has been confirmed that Microsoft is purchasing Mojang for $2.5 Billion dollars. They already lost at least 40% of my respect for purchasing Mojang. If they screw Minecraft up, I will be installing Linux on this old laptop, not really but it is a consideration now.
It's a done deal...Microsoft now owns Minecraft but will not get the founding fathers with it...all those involved with the creation are stepping down stating they just want to make games not be in the spotlight....the success was too much for them to handle.

Such a shame Notch and a few others decided to leave. I can only see this rolling down hill from now.. I mean, Microsoft have a major $2.5 Billion dollar hole to now refill. I've a few ideas on which they might do, but I'll wait and see to what MS does.Quote:

I can see some very stupid ideas being implemented. Like you said, micro transactions. If they do add them, it'll just ruin the game.
Most likely a Minecraft 2 that'll cost about $35 USD, then a server license will be created for making a MC2 MP server.. Another $35.. Merchandise will go up in prices..

Nobody cares about "fully 3d", Minecraft special thing was that its a Voxel world. They may improve some stuff but I doubt they'll change the appearance that much because most of players would quit even if they paid for it. It would kill the modding community, but I would love an exact copy of minecraft how we know it in c++ talk about way better performance.
Why are people saying they spent $2.5bn on Minecraft? They bought Mojang out. Not Minecraft on its own.
For those people contemplating the idea of it being re-written in C++:
Why would they even consider re-writing it? I think if they did, most of Mojang would leave themselves. Too much work has been put into the Modding API etc.. Not to mention the fact that Minecraft runs extremely well for a game written in Java.
What would make me happy is if they continued where Notch and the gang left off and keep it as Minecraft.
Would also love if they did some major performance upgrades with it ^^ Who knows what we'll see. Microsoft might actually turn minecraft into something better then what it is.. Although highly unlikely it might just happen. We must wait and see.
They bought minecraft dude get over it. The company Mojang owns it and they wanted minecraft to expand their younger audience. In the end the money was for minecraft itself.Quote:
