You're all idiots.
Your an idiot if you think the people that brought you Windows ME and Windows Vista..oh and lets not forget Windows 8 touch screen based "desktop" on non touch screen computers....then there's the GFWL integration into loads of games...that went so badly even Microsoft themselves agreed and abandoned it....
Your right...MS doesn't have a track record of screwing things up at all.....
Next year will be 20 years since Windows 1.0 was released...in 20 years they have successfully created 3 GOOD operating systems out of the 24 they have made....98 SE, XP, and 7...they rest were crap.

c++ would be superior to the java one. You say it runs smooth, but if a user has a crap pc it doesn't and if it was c++ it would run smooth on even a bad computer and superior fantastic on a good pc. I highly doubt microsoft cares about modders
Do you realize the other games at Mojang? *cough* Scrolls & Cobalt. You highly doubt Microsoft care about Modders? Are you sure? Modders have built the community of Minecraft.
Phil Spencer from Microsoft has released a video about the acquisition of Minecraft.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEwkcPl9IB4#t=157
He says himself that the community has created so much for Minecraft, including user-generated content etc.. Listen to the video yourself, he says they will continue to work with the community, because it's critical.

The majority of Minecraft players on pc have a decent enough rig to play the game, even if people find themselves struggling with fps, addons such as optifine are there for a reason.

Finally Microsoft speaks out a bit. It's good to hear that they are going to work hand in hand basically with community rather like Notch and the rest did. And if they play their cards right, they should care for modders.. Without modders a game can get seriously boring, such as Minecraft. I'm happy to see that they have gotten the point that Minecraft needs to be developed upon by listening to the MC community.
I wonder when the first update will be out :O:

Talk less shit, thanks.
ME was shit, that's true. Vista was actually great, people heavily criticise it, yet that's unfair, Vista got ripped on because everything need permission, they fined tuned that, and because of the driver issues, yet no one is bitching about that now, because they were just some early pains that were NEEDED to have an improved system, except for that, it was excellent. If anything MS screwed us over with W7, since W7 is pretty much a update to Vista and nothing more. Vista simply was a fantastic OS that improved security and improved overall experience, just took a couple of years before people realised it, at that point it was better to release a new version, rather than to update Vista with it's poor reputation.
Windows 8 is also a fantastic OS, people cry because of the start menu, guess what, people get used to it. Does that mean it's good for non touchscreen devices? Nope. But look at the industry, every brand has plenty of touchscreen systems, you know why? Because MS forced it. MS has a vision, and they are succeeding, even though people like you don't realize it.
You should look up some of MS' plans for the future, you will start to realise that they are not creating software for the next 5 years, but the next 25+ years.
I've used nearly every Windows version, except for ME because it was a pile of horseshit, and Windows 1 and 2, but I've used all the others, and W8 really is the best version to date.
Btw did you even use Windows 3(.1)? Or weren't you born yet?
As for GFWL, first of all it's still up and running, not only can you still use it, but they still use the service on PC's for new titles. Remember that GFWL is nothing more than a different name for Xbox Live, and they still use that service across all their platforms.

Is that why Scrolls just dropped from $21 to $5, because it's such a fantastic game that everyone wants to buy? Or is it maybe because other popular card games such as Magic and Hearthstone are wiping the floor with them?
As for Cobalt, that's a game in Alpha which won't have a very successful future either. Not saying that because either of them is bad, but because they won't get that popular.
Minecraft is/was extremely popular, they didn't buy Mojang for the other 2 titles, they most definitely bought it for Minecraft, if MS wants a card game or a action platformer, they would just make it, MS obviously thinks they can make shitloads of money of MC.

Vista was the biggest resource hog ever created in the history of OS'....they had everything running at once all the time in the background. You needed over twice the memory to run it compared to XP....lets look at the requirements:
Windows XP:
The minimum hardware requirements for Windows XP Home Edition are:
- Pentium 233-megahertz (MHz) processor or faster (300 MHz is recommended)
- At least 64 megabytes (MB) of RAM (128 MB is recommended)
- At least 1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available space on the hard disk
- CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive
- Keyboard and a Microsoft Mouse or some other compatible pointing device
- Video adapter and monitor with Super VGA (800 x 600)or higher resolution
- Sound card
- Speakers or headphones
Windows Vista:
Windows Vista Home Basic
- 800-megahertz (MHz) 32-bit (x86) processor or 800-MHz 64-bit (x64) processor
- 512 megabytes (MB) of system memory
Note On system configurations that use system memory as graphics memory, at least 448 MB of system memory must be available to the operating system after some memory is allocated for graphics. - DirectX 9-class graphics card
- 32 MB of graphics memory
- 20-gigabyte (GB) hard disk that has 15 GB of free hard disk space
- Internal or external DVD drive
- Internet access capability
- Audio output capability
64 megs of RAM required all the way to 512 required...not mention at least 32 meg DirectX 9 video card required....for an OS???? The Home Premium required 1gb of RAM??!?!?!?!

Windows 7 is an updated version of Vista..yes..they made it more user friendly and fixed all the resource hogging....after that...sure, it's a great OS....if you need more proof...here is PC World's 10 worse operating systems ever.... Clicky clack Number 8 is ME, Number 10 is Vista.....there is even a link to a review by Mike Nash, Microsoft's corporate vice president of Windows product management...he said in an internal email it was horrible.

I didn't realize it...everyone else didn't realize it...and even MS didn't realize it by releasing 8.1??? Anytime you see a second version of an OS being released...there were major problems with the first one...hence the second release.....even MS agreed to this.

It's only still running because there are games out that still require the connection due to DRM....open your GFWL lately? You cannot buy games there anymore...it's simply a DRM client now.

I respect your opinion...and agree if they wanted something else they would just make it. My continued statements are without Notch and the other founding fathers the vision for MC in the future is gone...the people working on it will have their own vision....and it may be better than Notch's vision....but it won't be that grass roots, down home, little developer feeling that made MC it's own.

Makes two of us. They have opened up a little bit about what will happen which is them basically saying they're going to reach out and into the community and basically take in our opinions on what next to do with the game. Which mind you is a good thing and I hope they stick true to their word.

Oh wow, 512mb ram. Do you know how much ram was back then? I do, it was 84 dollars including shipping for 1GB! http://www.jcmit.com/memoryprice.htm
So who had the real problem with ram? People using old PC's. But why did everyone need to upgrade? I didn't, because I understood that the new version required a more powerful PC.
The problem was that people wanted to run Vista on their old piece of shit. But hey, let's blame MS for that. Also please blame Peugeot, I put a massive caravan on the back of it, it said it required a certain car, but I figured, if it fits, who gives a fuck right?
Btw did you know that Windows 7 had a minimum requirement of 1GB, OMG that's twice the amount, and the recommended was 2GB. I mean holy shit dude, why does Microsoft not respect that we want to use old garbage systems for their brand new operating systems? Fuck them! Just fuck them and their shitty software!
Oh and little fun fact, XP was generally released October '01, Vista January '07, and 7 July '09.
That means that there was 63 months between XP and Vista, which means that if you follow recommended settings between XP and Vista basic, it increased 4, which is 0.063 per month.
Between Vista and 7 were 18 months, while memory doubled, which means 0.111 per month. Now it could be me, but your glorious 7 increased required memory more than Vista did.
My point being, times change, operating systems change. Microsoft has a vision of progression, they force that progression by upping the requirements. MS has done this so many times, they keep pushing the industry, and it's really worked well so far. Sure people might not like it, but lets face it, if you don't push, things will go slower.
Vista was a good OS. Yes MS has said bad things about Vista, why? Because they have to. This doesn't mean they don't make mistakes, but Vista was a sound OS, if you had a decent PC it was good. Yes it needed more work, but guess what, it was a new system, a system we still use daily, because while 7 and 8 might have different names/numbers, it's still Vista under the hood.
Which is why I'm saying that 7 is nothing more than a updated Vista. Just like 9 will just be an updated version of 8. So why not just update it? Well because people like you will always rip on a OS, regardless of patches, you will always be like "Windows 8 is shit, so what if they fixed their stupid mistakes" etc. So instead release a new OS, get great reviews, and just say "well Windows 8 wasn't our best product, but 9 is!". In the end MS is a company, they might have some pride, but money is much more important.

You know the service used by Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC, Windows Phone 7, Windows Phone 8, Windows 8 (modern UI) and even as some small parts on iOS and Android. But yeah, that service is dead in the water. In fact I've been playing a game using that service that was released 2 days ago. But hey, it's nearly dead! That said, I think its fantastic that even though it's basically dead, MS still keeps updating it.
http://majornelson.com/2011/09/13/xb...and-windows-8/
It really shouldn't be that hard to get. I mean GFWL was always one with Xbox Live, same service, same account, same game history, cross-link gaming between PC and Xbox in some cases, only the name was different to make sure people would understand the difference, I mean they were trying to brand Xbox properly. Now Xbox is a cross platform brand, including PC. Simple as that.

Re: [Discussion] Microsoft offers Mojang $2b For Minecraft!
Dude...the link you provided doesn't even say the words Games for windows live on it anywhere...you don't seem to know the difference between Xbox Live and Games for windows live...so let me enlighten you...
And if you do not want to read the wall of words that is contained in the link...let me quote the part that pertains to this discussion:
Quote:
In July 2014 Microsoft initially decided to only partially shutdown the service allowing for the already existing GFWL titles to work online. However, it appears that a month later in August 2014 Microsoft decided to shutdown the service altogether so that none of the GFWL titles will work. This means that even if you were to play games offline you won't be able to save your game progress, download your existing DLC or get achievements due to the GFWL/ Marketplace sign-in process no longer working.
Xbox Live and GFWL are 2 different entities...not the same. They can coexist on 1 title...Shadowrun. And anyone who owns and plays GTA IV knows the problems with GFWL and it's DRM. (source) and (source)
Now as for your attack on my personal knowledge...yes I do post on other tech sites...Toms Hardware and Tech Crunch are my 2 favorite sites...I have authored articles on both....and there was no humor or laughter involved on any of them. The difference between me posting here and writing articles is here I can be myself...I'm helping a friend with their computer as opposed to helping a customer with theirs.
As for the OS differences...we will just have to agree to disagree there...we both have our opinions and they differ...so be it.
Re: [Discussion] Microsoft offers Mojang $2b For Minecraft!
Pretty sure this is a discussion thread regarding Microsoft acquiring Mojang not which OS is best.. Think we should get back on track fellas. :-)
Re: [Discussion] Microsoft offers Mojang $2b For Minecraft!
Well the basis of my additions to the OS' and GFWL was to show how Microsoft has the tendency to screw things up and I fear they will screw up Minecraft too.....I went left field due to "Talk less shit, thanks." and "And yet you are a shithead to this day, posting crap on a forum where the average is far below mine, let alone yours. Maybe go to a tech site and show your incredible knowledge of PC's there, or do they laugh at you?"
I defend myself against personal attacks with fervor :) The rest of you should be offended too..I mean he is saying this forum is full of idiots. "posting crap on a forum where the average is far below mine, let alone yours."
