    Halo 3: Legendary Map Pack & New Forge Features

    Well, for all the people that play halo 3 and don't check Bungie.net news and updates then here are the huge things coming to Halo 3. First are the new maps Blackout, Avalanche and Ghost Town. These new maps will be available for download on April 15 for 800 Microsoft points on Xbox Live market place.
    Legendary Map Pack: Maps
    Blackout
    Well finally Bungie brings back a classic map I'm pretty sure everyone loved. Blackout if you haven't clued in is a remake of Lockout, a very well made map from Halo 2. Lockout is no longer in some snowy atmosphere anymore, now it's a weather station somewhere in the Antarctic (images below). Bungie tried to keep mostly everything from Lockout the same as Blackout just re-amped and with a new setting. All the weapon placements on Lockout is the same as Blackout with some of the equipment like shield drainer and bubble shield. Some jumps are now easier to make on Blackout, like from middle to sniper 3 is much easier to handle. Also the setting has changed allot in Blackout for example this is the first multiplayer map thats all in nighttime and making Blackout feel like its really in a cold atmosphere. All game types for lockout pretty much work the same from Lockout.
    Avalanche
    Well besides Blackout, Avalanche is a remake from a Halo 1 map, Sidewinder. The basic shape of Sidewinder (for those who didn't play it on Halo 1) is a ''U'' shape. With the two bases being on the top parts of the ''U''. It's setting is in some icy/snowy environment which is a large forerunner power station. There are many different ways from getting from base-to-base including driving in vehicle, doing through the caves, or using the man cannons all through the map. Simply put this map is like containment (halo 2 map) but turned into a ''U'' shape and with man cannons. This map has allot of routes to get from base-to-base and large amounts of vehicles (the vehicles are their normal colors but have some snow on them and the Scorpion tank has camo on it). This map works well with the more objective style gaming like assault and capture the flag, which makes it a BTB (big team battle) favorite.

    Ghost Town
    The first of three maps to be revealed for the Legendary Map pack. Ghost Town is the fragmented ruins of a small 24th century water purification complex that geographically lies just North and West of the jungle foothills hydroelectric facility from the Sierra 117 mission. Designed for 4v4 close and ranged combat but not forgetting certain spots good for camping. Created mainly for one flag or one bomb because of it's size and design but also good for FFA slayer or team. This map is most like the Halo 2 maps Warlock and Sanctuary.

    Saving the best for last, the coolest new forge feature.
    There are some brand new objects in the Forge this time around. What are they? How will they change the Forge and gameplay?
    CP: The biggest new things are the Forge filters, these are forge objects that change the camera settings to create a variety of effects. I think some of them will be useful for adding a little bit of a different flavor to custom maps, but the main intended use was for those who are interested in creating cool screenshots and films. Our Community’s machinima makers should get a kick out of them.
    Where did the idea for the Forge filters come from?
    LB: If I recall correctly, they grew out of the crazy screens people are taking in-game through the Films. We saw a lot of people putting the camera in really specific locations to get awesome effects to change how the game looked. Cam was messing around with the idea one day, and it looked pretty cool. We also wanted to give players some extra knobs to tweak.
    CP: At some point during DLC 2’s production the question came up of “what crazy new Forge thing are we going to make this time around?” I compiled a list of things I thought we could do and would be interesting, one of the ideas there was a way to change the various camera settings, something we’ve had control of for a while but I thought it would be cool to give to users. Barry went over the list and picked out a few that really stuck out for him he suggested I take a look at the camera effects object we’d used previously for grenades and equipment. During this time we’d all been really impressed by some of the great screens people were getting using the limited grenade/equipment set, in the end we wanted to both bring that to more users and really expand the abilities of the people already taking great shots.
    Here are the examples of different forge filters available:

    If you read through that and still don't get it, the Forge Filter is a tool that allows you to play a game in for example black and white or take screenshots in black and white.
