Ideas on my gaming channel

Hi, I was thinking about starting a youtube gaming channel.

I was wondering what you think people would like + want.

Recording ~ Should I use my Roxio or save up for a HD PVR or anything HD

Mic ~ Should I talk whilst playing or just play music?

Games ~ Would you prefer one game or multi-game, The games I would be happy filming or commentating on would Be Fifa 12/Fifa 13 series when its out Minecraft series on my pc when I actually buy it. A series on call of duty, Please tell me what you would like to see if I do actually start out

Use HD PVR. Also don't do lots of games that everyone else does, do a lets play on a game that hardly anyone is doing. If you have a squeaky voice don't start . Always speak clearly and proper English so people can understand and don't just click off. You have to have a sense or humour otherwise it won't make your channel fun. Do commentaries otherwise your channel won't get very far as music isn't very fun nor is no sound.

It depends on what games you have because I don't want you going out wasting money, YouTube channels don't just get lots of popularity straight away so your going need dedication and most people aren't dedicated enough so they give up.

I don't really care about popularity that much, I just want viewers to watch and hopefully enjoy it, and If I do get lots of subscribers its a bonus.

Popularity == Viewers.

A roxio will do for now. You don't want to spend a tonne of money on a HD PVR. I know it's only $200, but it's $200 you'd still have if your channel fails or you give up.

Most definitely commentate, unless of course you're really good at a game and are capable of making montages.

There are SOOOOO many channels out there now that specialise in FIFA, Minecraft & Call of Duty, you're going to find it incredibly (and I mean incredibly ) hard to get anywhere unless you're different. i.e. fun, uncommon etc.

Do lets plays of campaigns of games like you could do saints row 3, Mercs 2 and so on. You could do retro games like street fighter, sonic ,Alien storm, Golden axe.

Ok, But with recording with a Mic how would I record with the same time as playing and should I buy a decent one or stick with my laptop one?

You can just set it to record your voice just as you're about to game and then just put the audio over the video in some Video editing software.

You could always try a quality test and post it here and we'll give you feedback.

Put together a video with your current video & audio recording equipment (i.e. mic & roxio) and we'll tell you if you need to buy a new mic or a PVR based on the output.

Good channels are consistent with their uploads. If you genuinely can't find the time to upload at least once a day then you won't be successful.

Also, try and hook up with some current YouTubers. Not necessarily big ones, just those who have a subscriber base. Do some dual commentaries and just get yourself known. Sponge off their popularity!

Videos can be anything from 5mins - 30mins however 10mins is a good average video.

Lots of people already do COD and Minecraft ... He will have to do something amazing to get somewhere with minecraft and COD.

MIR, Check some topics here on RAGEzone and use those games to make live commentary i'm pretty sure that those arn't there yet.

You could also try buying games from Steam and make reviews of that or Live commentary would be nice though.

Do a Gotham City Imposters series, would love to see that. Also a Max payne series.
