I don't remember how many rumors I have heard since 2006, now the latest rumor came out with an interesting view said the Diablo III will be announced at the next Blizzard World Wide Invitational, June 28th. TBH Diablo III is the only game Im really looking forward to.

Starcraft 2 is what Blizzard is releasing this year. There have been rumors of a Diablo III since Starcraft Ghost was cancelled back in 2005. There has been confirmation by the author of the books that he is writing a 3rd BOOK. That doesn't mean they will make another game though. But, knowing Blizzard and the popularity of Diablo. I'm not going to doubt that they will make another one.
I would love a diablo III. I doub't it'll get released anytime soon though :(

I dont think that the diablo franchise would necessarily be ruined by being ported to mmorpg format. Obviously, a shitty dev team could ruin it. But all in all it could be very cool imo.
No it wouldn't. Diablo should never be made into a MMORPG, i mean atleast the background of Warcraft was good enough to make a MMORPG out, Diablo doesn't even have that. Plus the way the game is played is just not something you can convert in a proper way to a MMORPG.
I've played Diablo 2 so much, 1 of my most played games, i litteraly knew everything about it (in a way i still do, but i used to know stuff like all the frames of hitting, fhr etc from the Paladin, Druid and Amazon from the top of my head), and i truely made great Paladins. I know that if it's sequel would be so different from Diablo 2 (and 1 for that matter, great game, but Diablo 2 was truely much better imo), then it would be a failure. Not saying that the game couldn't be good, but if they are gonna completely change the gameplay, as it would with a MMORPG, then they should just turn it into a new game with a new name and storyline.
Well Diablo paved the way for a lot of the New MMORPGS. As for Diablo III from what I've heard...they started making it a while back, but scratched the project because it just didn't fit the standards as a sequel to Diablo II. And then some other rumors were explaining how Diablo III would be a MMORPG style game with Heaven and Hell factions.
Diablo II relied so heavily on the Story Line, even the online mode was like...a Co-Op mode with the story line, and the Battle Systems were great, the dueling the skills, etc. The story was very important, if it somehow does becomes a MMORPG, I think that it will be very difficult to keep the emphasis on the story...but you never know, blizzard is good at what it does.
How the hell did it pave the way for new MMORPG's? You are implying that Diablo 2 is a MMORPG, which it clearly isn't, which is what makes the game so good.
The first M is the problem... Massive, which basicly means they have to create a world that keeps going on, so you have to do spawns, shitty quests etc, whereas with Diablo 2 they simply used a stronger version of the regular single player mode with real quests and all that.
As for rumors... seriously, stop reading them, there have been rumors for years, right now anything can happen, there hasn't been anything real on Diablo 3 so far.
Like i said, if they make it MMORPG then they will ruin it. As for Blizzard being good at what it does, well that depends, from a business point of view they are doing excellent, but from a gaming point of view imo they are doing pretty bad, MMORPG's are a disease, and for such a high class gaming company to make such crap is sad really, they should have just made a 4th Warcraft or 3rd Diablo.
A lot of MMORPGS took a lot of features that Diablo 2 brought in, Diablo 2 obviously wasn't an MMORPG...but it's features are now the basics for a lot of MMORPGs. And in all honesty...you do in Diablo 2 what you do in pretty much every other MMORPG, except the way D2 was made...it's a little different.
You sit in a town (lobby in diablo 2's case), and you look for parties to level, to do a certain quest, to power level you, to trade, to pvp, etc.
The only difference is that instead of a laggy town with 1000 people in it, you have a lobby. There are plenty of different channels, each with 20-30 people.
The classes...every game has to have a Mage-like character, a long ranged hunter character, a beast / animal like character, a warrior, a dark magic mage (necromancer)...
Diablo I and II were pretty much the first RPGs I've played...and I've seen the features it had repeated in so many RPGs MMO or not...with the skill trees, the layout, the bank, the sockets, the jewels, the classes, the runes...etc.
And Blizzard...pretty much makes the most popular games Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo...everyone knows those names...and even if they make Diablo a MMORPG, no matter how diablo-like or not it may be...people are still going to play it. People complained about WOW and Warcraft and how the story doesn't match at all...and people are still playing WoW nonetheless. So whatever they make of Diablo...people will play and people will pay.
That's because most people are idiots, infact about 99% of them never played any of the real Warcrafts.
As for Diablo, it didn't lead the way to MMORPG's, if you check the first bunch of MMORPG's then you won't see that many comparisons, well except for the obvious RPG elements, but those are in pretty much every RPG game.

Personally I would not care if it was a world of diablo or the same crappy graphics as number 2. It was a fun game and I still play it!
