The game is simply amazing. During my 33 levels on CN servers, I took 360 screenshots. Should anyone want to see them, they are located @ http://aion.vesuvius.dk
EDIT: There's over 100 shots of a castle siege I attended. It was epic.
As a fellow summon-lover, do you know how good spirit masters are? I will most likely be following in your footsteps of either going buffer or summoner :p Summoner preferably, buffer if summoners are shafted again like in L2. From what I have read they are pretty screwed with no pet-gear scaling, but I guess it's still beta so all can (and should!) change.
Summoner is not the same as L2. To be honest after beta I was reading the beta boards and learned a lot of things I was simply doing wrong. If they keep the beta characters for the next beta I will still reroll a cleric, because I am really using this time to test them out. BUT summoners are very powerful. My ranger friend was always upset at how much more powerful I was than him. Think about it. I go after one mob I send my summon after another. Plus they have these spirit summons. My fire spirits (2) I could summon on a mob, they stayed only a short while and did impressive damage to that mob. I didn't need special things to summon, just MP. So I'd get a mob with my summon (fire, earth or wind) then Id get my fire spirits on them, that's 4 things hitting them at once, they went down fast. I did use a lot of MP, but I played the class like I was a Mage. Better way would be to concentrate more on the dot/debuffs you get, and let my summons do most of the work, and as you get higher level as a summoner that's what you do.
But yes I love summoners, I love pets in any game. My favorite is buffer or healer, and a close second is summoner. I told a friend of mine I'll likely roll a spirit master as an alt character, because she was powerful and she was fun to play. Some discussion on beta boards about if summons can fly and some things said to be fixed in the 1.2 patch or something, we weren't using that patch yet. So I'm not 100% sure what the fgure of summoners is, but really other than my summons couldn't fly, I didn't see them as being shafted. Play them well and you are overpowered :)
I'm not sure what you mean by pet gear scaling, honestly the only downfall (other than the question about them flying) is that they dont seem to get any buffs. The only hp heal you get drains your hp was another complaint. Honestly these things and how they affect you only depend on how you play the class. Some on the beta boards said that at high level only a sorc could take them down if they (the sorc) was lucky. SInce beta doesn't really allow you to see that high, I can't say for sure how powerful it can be, but to level 18 I was kicking everythings butt.
The point about pets not scaling with gear means you can easily get to max lvl with newbie gear. Why try to get new gear if it doesn't effect your main damage source. I think it was a real flaw in L2, you can easily get to 80 with devo set, and hell the only reason to change your wep was to get acumen. Most summoners end up with loads of diff kits because no matter what you choose it makes no real difference. In comparison WoW and other games some of the stats on items are given to the pet, such as x% of your stamina. Even if the base stats are lowered it just means there is something for the summoner to actually work towards once they reach max lvl. I guess it's pretty similar to healers/buffers, but i think its a flaw in most games.
I personally kept trying to better my armor because I was taking damage. Plus with the quests you get a lot of better armor as rewards.
I would think you would want to better your weapon at least because of the dot spells, which are very powerful, also I think that the stats might have some effect on the fire spirits, which are summoned more like an attack.
I'll try to remember to find out more info when the beta boards are back up again.
hey Madison,
Do you know if Aion supports modification on the GUI ? Like WoW, AoC, and many other games.
I still want my L3 D:
Bumping for Madi reply, just wondering because I have a few people saying healers are fine to level and some say they need to group 24/7.
We got the betas for Aion a couple weeks back at GameStop. Sorry to totally go against your opinion Madi but, if you a looking for an MMO. Aion is not going to be around for long. It may become popular as a private server MMO. But, as a P2P MMO. It sucks. Flat out people. I might as well go back and play fucking WoW. I was severely disappointed with NCSoft. I hate those fuckers now. First they hype this game up so much and then let everyone down in the beta. Several other Store Manager's in my district (including myself) got together for a sit down with the playable demo.
Firstly, 4 out of the 6 of us had connection problems right from the start, and what made it insanely annoying was that most of the error codes still haven't been translated. But, not to deter me from an MMO. I troubleshooted the problem on my own and got around it eventually.
Secondly, by the time we had established our little party and began exploring and such, I noticed all the while, many of the model concepts hadn't been full rendered...WTF? Is NCSoft seriously considering releasing this game in September?
Thirdly, the game mechanics are still glitchy as hell. I fervently found my character sort of gliding across the ground while my feet weren't even moving. And the hit counter was off tempo with the animations. Quite annoying.
I could go on. But I'm sure you don't want to read a wall of text. All in all, the game looks cool and has a great concept, but if NCSoft really plans on releasing this game in September, it will fail.
Deffo will try this out. But not buy yet, already bought Warhammer online and realised that it sucked after 5 days of playing.
I've been playing the beta as well... i haven't noticed any of those problems iron maiden, but i have noticed nothing new from any other mmo... Crafting is ok, PVP feels so controlled and limited, and questing is just bleh mailman work. I'm gonna continue to play it though, just to see what it's like later on in the game, as i'm barely level 20.
My apologies, life has been busy.
I have been playing a Cleric (healer) the past 2 closed betas and plan to again. I am still trying to decide which would be the best class to play Cleric vs Chanter.
ElMarshal's question about solo leveling I think is important. I've played a healer a lot in Lineage 2, and honestly solo play is very hard. The only real advantage they get is their undead nuke.
In AION, there is not the restriction of what kind of mobs your attacks work for. You do get a few decent attacks and chain skills.
I think how well you can do as a healer solo killing in AION depends on how you have geared yourself up. I have done some reading on the beta boards and a little bit of my own experimentation. It seems that mace + shield is best for a healing situation. The healer hate makes the mobs come after you, and this is a good set up to be able to deal with a whack or two from the mob while the tank gets their attention back. Shield defense manastones help with this as well.
However, for a Cleric a staff with magic boost is more effective. The majority of the attacks for a Cleric are magic based similar to a mage. For a Chanter I think Parry is much better on a staff, and the staff gives a chance for knockdown too, if you are using it to physically hit. The difference is, the Cleric is casting not hitting, and Chanters are hitting.
I was able to solo, there are some cases where you would need to for quests even with a party. I was not as fast as my Sorcerer friend, and I should not expect to be. However my speed was more comparable to my Templar friend, and he was killing only a little faster than I was.
Any time you play a healer though, you should expect your primary objective is to heal. Honestly if you really want a class that is more into damage dealing but is also support a Chanter is the way to go.
The Combo of Templar / Sorcerer / Cleric was touted on the beta boards as being the best possible party combination. This is what we've been playing the past 2 betas, and I don't see that large of a difference between the Assassin / Ranger / Chanter combination we rolled the first closed beta I was in. Mainly, I was able to heal for a lot more as a Cleric, and not do as much damage. So it seemed to me like we were doing about the same, or maybe a little more.
This last beta brought a lot of PvP action through rifts as well. I have to say I enjoyed very much to be a Cleric, and often served as a medic near the back lines healing any random person I saw with lower health. The only real issue is tabbing through enemies (you press tab to change targets, works like a next target command) it is easy to see which were healers and buffers and they get attacked first, so I got ganged up on a few times as well.
Cleric looks to me like it gets better skills as the level progresses. I'm currently only level 21. I just recently got a skill similar to salvation in Lineage 2 that I can only cast on myself. This is a buff that when I have it on, I can resurrect at my location with 30% hp and mp. That is a handy skill, but I do not recommend using it when you are surrounded by enemies. opps. :)
AION has their last closed beta this weekend. I think around Sept 1 they are starting the Open beta, but I have not seen an official date yet. They will be wiping between closed beta and open beta.

I will try to post some more screen shots from the last 2 closed betas and answer any more questions soon, but as I said I have been a little busy with some company recently, and some family activities this week. So please don't hesitate to post any questions or comments, this thread has been very interesting so far to read.
Everyone is different so even differing opinions from mine are very welcome. I represent a minority in the forum being female, and likely find some things very neat and cool that none of you would. :) However, I know my male friends I am playing with have been more than fired up about this game as well.
